From the pics the place looks nice. $5 cover sounds perfect. I'll check it out at some point. Having lived in FL and AZ the $10 cover is a rarity while the $15 and $20 cover is more common. The other good thing about going out in Raliegh and other cities in NC is that you don't get the attitude from people that you get in FL, SoCal and the like. Plus the women you see while you're out clubbing are more "real" in NC. You don't see the numerous pornstar sized fake breast women that I've encountered while out at a restaurant, football game, basketball game, club or lounge in AZ or FL.

Maybe they are going for the "liberal elite"
Just think, you can go get your latte next door at Helios with a poetry reading and then have a huge evening of snobbery and debauchery.....I can't wait!

BTW, does anyone know what the smoking/no smoking policy is for each of the 3 floors? I sure hope to enjoy an evening out without smelling like an ashtray when I get home.

Yup, sure do. There is no smoking at all on the first or second floors, however, the rooftop does allow smoking, as well as on the second floor balcony and first floor patio. You can certainly avoid these areas if you don't want to be around the smoke.

Excellent! That alone is going to be a big plus, regardless of cool decor, uppity-ness, etc. Who wants to get all dressed up in their nicest chichi clothes only to immediately smell like they've been standing behind the tailpipe of a car once they walk through the door?

OK, morning after "liquor breath" (even though you brushed your teeth before you went to bed) and the smoke you can still smell in your hair (more noticeable for us girls since our hair is longer), is definitely one of the worst things to wake up to after a night of reveling. Especially when you have that sloshy, I-haven't-consumed-anything-but-liquid-in-the-last-12-hours feeling in your stomach.

On topic, Solas's website is no longer giving me a headtrip and actually has some meaningful information on it.

The menu looks delicious - pricey, but I wouldn't say overpriced if it is high quality (which it looks to be). All their special mixed drinks seem to be $10. There is a $10 cover after 10pm, Thurs.-Sat. (not bad, it's easy to get somewhere before the cover charge starts if you really want to). And there really is a clear glass dance floor so the people below can look up your skirt (I hope they aren't eating on the level below, that could get ugly).

There is a dress code that they will enforcing. It's not too bad, although a better definition of a "chains/pendants" ("ghetto medallions," perhaps? ) might be necessary since there actually exist tasteful, and even "upscale," examples of such things.

Quote:
Solas reserves the right for guests to adhere to an upscale dress policy at all times. Solas will not admit any sports or jersey wear, plain white t-shirts, tank tops, hats/baseball caps (male or female), boots (work/timberland), sneakers/flip-flips, chains/pendants, or shorts. Solas reserves the right to deny entry based on improper dress attire. All final dress code decisions are up to the discretion of the Solas management and staff.
