^^ You also just adjust to that kind of noise, like you adjust to anything. I lived right next to a fire station in MI, at one point, and to a major hospital w/ helipad at another (so ambulances and helicopters all the time) and it just becomes the norm. It was shockingly quiet when I moved to my current location in Wakefield, as I was just accustomed to fire trucks at all hours.

Siren
Where I grew up the fire station blew the whistle every day at 5:00 pm. It was nice in that I knew it was time to get home for dinner! This was usually followed by 5 churches ringing their bells.
