Default Places to Live around Raleigh/Durham Area

Hello all,

There is a chance that within the next few months I could be relocating to the Raleigh/Durham area for work. I am a 24 year old male, graduated from college last year with a BS/MS. I was born and raised in New York, and returned here to work after attending college in Virginia. After returning to the North and being here now for a year, I realize I am not a typical New Yorker and would love to move to the South where they are much more laid back and laxed. With all that being said I am starting the process of looking for places to live in the area.

I don't know the area well and looking to live in an area that is equidistant from my job (I am working for one of the companies selected to build the Western Wake Freeway-therefore my job would be somewhere around Morrisville/Cary/Apex) and from where some of my friends live (Northern Durham County, about 10 or so miles north of Downtown Durham and Duke University). Hopefully the commute times to both places isn't more than 20-30 minutes. Other than the distance requirements, there are some other requirements for the where I would like to live:

1) Location where I am surrounded by others my age group (20-35), young professionals, younger families.
2) Low crime rate.
3) Good nightlife, good shopping.
4) Affordable price for someone that wants to buy a small house or rent an apartment and can afford payments on approx. $60K salary.
5) Reasonable distance to outdoor activities.
6) Reasonable distance to a major airport.

Thank you in advance for your help. I look forward to your responses.

I'm not from the area, but have been active on this forum for over 2 years. It seems that alot of people mention Brier Creek with your requests. You might want to do a search on here to find out more about it. Maybe others will chime in.

I was wondering if anybody could inform me of some nice apartment/townhome/condo complexes in the 27713 and 27707 zip codes. I think I've heard these areas referred to as Hope Valley, Hope Valley Farms, Southpoint, Woodcroft, etc.

What I'm looking for is a 2BR/1.5 or 2 BA apartment/townhome where rents are in the $700-800 range (not including utilities, but if they are it's definitely an added plus).

There are a lot of apartments around Southpoint Mall. That area is centrally located to your work and friends and has a lot of the young professional demographic you mentioned. I don't know apartment community names, but a map search of apartments around the mall (located at I-40 & Fayetteville Rd.) should turn up plenty.

I would check out Southpoint Crossing. We had a corporate rental there for a few weeks when we were relocating to the area, and the location is super convenient to RTP, local conveniences, freeway, etc. Nice apartments, and the complex runs adjacent to the ATT.

YES! We just moved into a complex in the 27707 area... called Copper Mill Apartments. We absolutely love it. The area is just what you described that you are looking for in your original post. The location is AMAZING (at least, we think so) as it is central to everything you could possible need. Hope this helps!
