Top Neighborhoods Given these Requirements
My family and I are considering moving to the Cary/Raleigh area. We have the following requirements and price range - any recommended neighborhoods?
Price Range - $500,000 to 999,999
Neighborhood desires:
- Tree lined
- - water/park activities nearby (neighborhood pool, splash park, playgrounds etc.)
- "Active" neighborhood - (block parties, holloween events for kids etc.)
- mix of stay at home and working moms
- young kids (ours are 1 year and 3 year old)
- being near a Whole Foods would be great

I don't have any recommendations for you at this point, but you should have no problem fidning what you are looking for at that prcie range. FWIW, if a particular neighborhood in North Raleigh catches your fancy you may want to keep this in mind if the Whole Foods issue has the potential to be a deal breaker.

As for Cary, the Lochmere neighborhood is close to the Whole Foods but I am not sure you will find as many young kids in that neighborhood. But there would be many West Cary or Apex neighborhoods that would fit your description. Amberly has a huge pool and community center, the Preston area would fit the bill (assuming you joined Prestonwood). I am sure there are many others as well around Raleigh.

Preston & Preston Village in Cary meet all of your criteria except the Whole Foods but they do have a Fresh Market which some actually prefer over Whole Foods.

Brandywine Subdivision in Cary pretty much fits that....I know cause I live there. Houses are closer to upper 300's to low 400's and up to about 600.

Whole Foods' webpage on its stores in development lists Cary in NC as having a new 50K square foot store in development. This I believe is in addition to the expansion of the current store at Waverly Place Shopping Center near Lochmere. It doesn't mention North Raleigh as a new store development location, interestingly, given the news articles that I've seen about that.
FWIW, I've heard rumors (and that may be all they are) that a Whole Foods location is being negotiated for the NW part of Cary. In particular at the intersection of Davis Drive and Morrisville Carpenter. However, I've since heard that Bloom, an "upscale" line of Food Line, is planned for that location in Bethany Village at Davis and Morrisville-Carpenter. I'm not familiar at all with Bloom.
BTW, Highcroft is likely to consistently have a fairly young set of families, given it's immediate proximity to an elementary school. The community is relatively active with planned community events at/near the pool and toddler playground. Also, because the neighborhood has sidewalks running down both sides of the street throughout (even in the culdesacs) people are always out and about walking, talking, and playing. There is a diversity of working moms (me) and stay at home moms (the family next-door and across the street from me). Sears Farm Park is immediately adjacent to the neighborhood for a playground larger than the toddler playground near the pool.
Hope this is helpful!

MacGregor and MacGregor West
Lochmere
Regency neighborhoods
Might find something in Wimbledon, at the lower end of your range, though.
All reasonably near Whole Foods, which is slated to be replaced with a new building in Waverly Place. Initial work underway in the current shopping center.

Within a 15 minute radius of the Whole Foods in Cary you have MANY choices-too many to list.
Look at the SE Cary/Holly Springs area for some great choices. Abbington in Apex would be a great fit too-there are some beautiful new homes in their latest phase.
