Visiting Chapel Hill with my wife one weekend in Oct. Can someone recommend a nice hotel or inn to stay in. I would like to be in the downtown area of CH if possible. If that's not possible a nice higher end hotel or inn would be great.

I'd suggest The Carolina Inn. It's downtown and very nice.

The Siena is also nice, but not downtown (about 2 miles away).

The CArolina Inn is great! You might check because it can fill up quickly on home football weekends.

The Franklin Hotel is quite nice, and also located downtown.

Check the football schedule. That's getting close to homecoming time, so it could be difficult if you're here then.

I concur with the Carolina Inn as option A and Franklin Inn as option B (if you want an upscale hotel downtown). You can easily get by with the Sienna as well, long walk to downtown and probably 5 buses an hour go by as well. And as mentioned, coming on a football weekend will make lodging tough to find in the downtown area.

carolina inn booked every weekend in oct. looks perfect though. trying franklin hotel now. any other options? otherwise what would be a upscale bed and breakfast to stay at in the area. i really don't like chain hotels.

It's a bit out there but you might try Fearington Inn.

Have you tried the Siena? That would be my next choice.
