Exclamation How did you like THAT storm!!!

Wow that was pretty wild. I am in NE Raleigh. Major rain, wind and of course the lightening and thunder. My poor puppy found refuge in the downstairs guest bathroom. No hail here but I see that Cary got a bunch!

I was out shopping at Circuit City in Beaver Creek. The rain pummeled the metal roof - unbelievable noise. On the way home, the lightening was incredible. I came home, went out to my screened porch and found my furniture cushions and jute rug soaking wet and 2 books ruined.

Lots of lightning, but only a slight sprinkle at my house.

Ok people be nice, I'm new to all these firework shows you all have here, but damn, that storm tonight was rockin. My wife and I went out to Wake forest for dinner and had to drive about 15 miles right through the middle of it to get back home The rain was coming down so hard, we had slow down to just 10 mph and still could not see where we were going. The lightening was constant. It was insane, but in a way a real rush and fun. Not sure how safe you are out there in a vehicle? Anyone? But we were stuck right smack in the middle of the hardest hit area for a good 30 minutes with strikes all around us so bright, they blinded my sight after each strike. When we got home, the two dogs were curled up shivering in the closet.

So how many times a year do you get a show that intense and what safety measures do you take?

Yup, we had lots of lightning and some heavy rain here in North Raleigh. My landscape is loving it and my rainbarrel is full. I'm very happy we are getting a good dose of wet weather as we transition into the fall. What a difference a year makes!

It is so odd.

We were at the Bulls game at the DBAP and there were a couple of sprinkles, and a few flashes.
But the game was never delayed, and the fireworks went off right on schedule.

We were amazed to see the wet streets when we came down HWY 55 towards Cary.

We had about two sprinkles of rain here, a couple of off-in-the distance lightning views, and once in a while something that sounded like thunder. That was it! Would have enjoyed a nice thunderstorm.
best,
toodie

It was great hanging out at RDU observation area with the kids waiting for the lightning to subside so my mom could get off the plane. They apparently can't pull up to the gate until 15 minutes after any lightning strike within a 5 mile radius of the airport. We waited quite awhile. An hour and 20 minutes after she landed to be exact. Got the car super clean though.

When driving home, we actually saw a few planes landing. The strikes were right at the airport. I can't believe they were flying in to land in that weather. We also saw a small plane take off and it was being tossed around like toy. Not sure why a private pilot in a single engine cesna would take his chances in this storm.
