What neighborhood in Cary do you think would have the shortest (time wise) commute to UNC Chapel Hill? We want either Panther Creek High or Green Hope High and we want a neighborhood with excellent off road walking and biking access. We are thinking about the neighborhoods west of Bond Park (Like Park Village) and also the communities west of 55. Ideally we want to spent less than 250k but will go up to 300k if we have to. Our 3 biggest wants in terms of a house in order are: 1-Panther or Green Hope High, 2-excellent off road walking and biking access, 3-short commute time to UNC.

We have a 2 year old and our goal is to buy within the next 2-3 years so he can settle in an grow up in a nice neighborhood. The earliest we would buy is Spring 2009.

Thoughts?

Amberly might be a good option. Close to the American Tobacco Trail. The plans call for quite a lot of greenway in that area. I ride my bike through there and it seems nice. Can get out to 751 and to UNC without too much hassle (much quicker than Park Village).

That said, I really like the White Oak Greenway, so Park Village may be worth the added commute.

How about Kenilworth (Cary Parkway and Waldo Rood?) Just as easy to get to UNC as is Park Village, most of the houses have 2-car garages, and While Oak Greenway runs through it, with some public access easements between houses. And the YMCA is just three blocks away, Fresh Market is on the corner!

White Oak Greenway doesn't run thru Kenilworth...here is the link for the trail:
Cary Greenways & Trails

It takes about 20-25mins of biking on the greenway from Davis Elem to get to the tobacco trail head.

Look at neighborhoods near Highhouse and 55, which is a short bike ride to the trail, but still in Cary...

OK, so what's the name of the greenway that runs from Cary Parkway to Bond Park?

This map: http://www.townofcary.org/depts/prdept/facilities/Bondtrails.pdf (broken link) shows that it is White Oak Greenway.

I'm curious if you're looking into the Green Hope/Panther Creek high school district specifically for your 2 year old or if there is another reason (like re-sale value or proximity to a job )?
