Is there anywhere that you can take your boat out around Raleigh? I've heard of Lake Gaston, but can you leave your boat in the water for multiple days in Falls Lake or any other lake? Overall, what I like to do is boat, swim, beach, etc. on lakes. Do these lakes offer this, and do you have to take your boat out of the water each time you use it, or is there a place like a yacht club that you can leave your boat for the summer? Thanks!
There is a marina on Falls Lake. I know you can get a slip there, but I don't know about a daily one or not. Here is a link that will tell you more. Welcome to Rollingview Marina
As far as boating, beach, etc at Falls, there are places where you can camp and you can have your boat there tied up. Near the camping (holly pointe) there is a beach area, showers, etc. I have never used the marina at the lake only because we put the boat in and leave in the same day. Kerr Lake also has a marina, same with lake gaston, I just don't know the fees for them.
Great, thanks! So this Falls Lake has a nice beach(swimable water I take it) and allows boats. I just have to make sure that it's the type of lake I enjoy! How about fishing and is there any place where a lot of people hang out on the water either on a boat or just off the water? Thanks!!
Hang-outs: Since the area lakes don't really have commercial development -there are no places to hang-out. Lake Gaston is likely the closest lake offering restaurants.
Overnighting: The marina's don't really offer appropriate temporary overnight accommodations, but you can anchor w/appropriate lighting or pull it onto shore without issue except on private property. have seen some camp wilderness style at Harris lake with boat against shore. Rare but it can be done in most places, even the state doesn't control the water -Army Corps of Engineers does.
Have you looked at putting a boat on the Intercoastal Waterway or one of the rivers leading to it? There are a lot of locations that are protected, closer than the beach, and have very nice boating and fishing as well as places to hang out after hours. My dad has kept boats in New Bern and/or Havelock for years (2 - 2 1/2 hours). While on a trip to the coast recently we went through Columbia, NC, which looked very nice for boating and was pretty close.

Falls has a nice beach near holly pointe (where you can camp) but nice means it is about two hundred feet long, and there is a roped off area that is shallow for swimmers. They have bathrooms, picnic tables, etc available. The campsites are also very nice. There is another beach area with a shelter, called sandling beach and it is not for boats, but there is another beach just down from it that where you can anchor your boat. It is a nice area to go during the day if you want to get away from the camp grounds. People sit and fish all day at the lake, many just anchor in a cove and hang out with their coolers, and fishing poles.
All of the lakes around here definitely have the mud factor so they are brownish in color. My favorite all time lake is smith mountain, but that is in virginia! It has the best water, very clear, huge lake...........ahh the memories!
