Something recently went very wrong with TWC. They were great.
Perhaps cost cutting.

We went back to TWC analog after problems with their DVR. That (basic + standard) + RR Lite is a bit over $80. RR is great and our area has been fiberoptic for years.
Might have bought their phone but stuck with AT&T since AT&T has service when power fails.

I've heard complaints about their service for years and years. Luckily I've never really needed much service.
Recently though, they've been really overhauling their network. They've increased RR speeds (and introduced tiers). They've also started supporting wireless at the customer premises. They've been getting ready for a huge SDV (switched digital video) transition, and the new cable box/DVR software is because of that. The new software is very buggy and lacks features in the older Passport software.
All of that means more service calls for a system that has apparently never been very good.

Consider yourself lucky, I signed up for service before I moved here, and didn't get actual service for 2 months or something after I arrived. I have never seen anything like it! I have tried to put it out of my mind-so the details are fuzzy. I would go with almost anyone else if I hadn't set this up with my work!

Competitors?
Are there options for competitors?
We have Comcast for our internet and phone (here in Michigan) and it's terrible. Hubby's work is paying for it though and we're just waiting to move to change services. Our phone is out fairly regularly and so is our internet. When we call, no one even knows why it's out and they always want to blame our equipment. This is hubby's line of work so he tells them how it is but I feel for the average customer who can't talk the language.
As for cable, we have DirecTV and love it. We've been with them for 5 years. They just sent us a note saying that we get a year of Showtime for free, just for being loyal customers (no strings attached). We thought that was pretty nice. Plus, we would never switch from DirecTV anyway because they have the agreement with the NFL for the football games. This keeps hubby very happy.

I've been "cell only" in the Triangle for over two years. I have Verizon and have never had a problem.
Regarding TW: I'm so fed up. My RR service increased $4-$5/month recently. I switched from TW digital cable to Dish Network. I'm very happy. The price is similar but Dish provides so many more channels. If only there was more choices for Internet service....

Totally fed up.
I live in a complex, so people are always moving in and out. Inevitably my internet goes out when this happens, because they put me on some kind of splitter and the signal is too weak.
One contractor come to fix it, tells me the problem, then another one hooks up someone else's cable, it happens again...
and so on and so on.
I'd get a dish but I'm moving anyway.

I've had a friend tell me that his DirectTV picture has gotten worse due to bandwidth concerns. He says that as they have added more HD channels, the picture has progressively downgraded. Any other DirectTV users getting that?
