How do you get in touch with 'Retention' - I don't want to wait 30 days when my deal expires at the end of September and then haggle and would prefer to deal direct with retention now - but the customer service (sic) won't give any details as they say it's against their internal policy to do so even though they have invoiced the higher charges in advance - in other words they hope people don't notice and just pay the higher fee's

Here's a reason to cancel TimeWarner: We went with Earthlink Lite for our internet (aka TimeWarner, repackaged - but they're cheaper than TimeWarner, go figure). We had the free install in September. When we got the bill they not only tried to charge us for the free install, but they tried to charge us for useage in AUGUST - even though they themselves see that we didn't have service until September. They fixed everything of course, but still. I expect this to happen every month. Cingular (now ATT) did this every ever month. I know that these companies purposefully and willfully inflate the bill knowing that a certain percentage of people just pay the bill without looking at it, and the gain is all theirs. Ever had a bill LOWER than expected with these companies? I haven't, so I don't believe in the "Oh, it's just a computer error" excuse.

Cool! I was browsing this morning and found this thread. I called TWC, dropped the cost of my bundled package $20 per mo without the two year contract. If I want to do the 2 yrs, i can drop it another $10 per mo. However, I'd rather pay the $240 over the next two years and be able to cancel at any time. Thanks for the info!

I have never had any trouble with TWC equipment/service.
We had a really low 1-year promotional rate (phone, internet, DVR/cable) that recently expired, and when we called to have it lowered again, they lowered it almost $20/month LESS than the promotional rate we had previously. I was shocked. It was no problem. No waiting period... no contract. I've been negotiating lower rates w/TWC for almost 5 years now and have never had an issue like the previous posters report. Maybe I'm just lucky

so what's the secret? are you pro-active in contacting TWC in advance of contract end? or do they just send you new lower rates? do you have a contact number that you have used when agreeing the lower rates? any information would be appreciated

To get in touch with retention you have to threaten to cancel. If you say "it seems like you can't help me by offering me something better to convince me to stay, so I need to speak to someone in retention or I am ready to have you cancel my account." That worked for me & got me transfered to retention.

I did the 2 yr contract last week. I finally reached them online using a chat. I will pay $141 total. If you cancel early, the most you will pay is $150, which goes down each month...in 6 months you would break even.

You might see if AT&T is offering U-Verse at your address. That's not the satellite option, it's fiber optic TV, phone, and Internet. I have the 200 channel package on 3 TV's, no phone, but 3mb Internet for $117/month. They gave me $300 credit to connect, plus free HD for one year. And NO CONTRACT! http://U-verse.ATT-services.net

Beware of U-Verse. They have been digging and re-digging (and back out digging again) in my neighborhood (in the SAME SPOTS) for months now. Word is, they cannot get their stuff to work. I'll stick with TWC. I've never had any issues with inflated bills or problems with customer service. And, its well known that if you threaten to cancel your service, they will work with you to keep you.

AT&T is known for taking years to get a new product to work. DSL took years to get right. Even now, install attempts routinely fail. We had a tech try to set up DSL in our apt business center. Hours later, he gave up with some loop box problem. TWC had us running Roadrunner in minutes.
