On Corporate Center Drive between Nowell and I-40 there's a bunch of land clearing.

Also, on Trinity Road at the back entrance to Brandywine subdivision right after crossing over 40 there's a construction trailer.

Anyone have any idea?

I know they are building apartments on Corporate Center Drive that go through to Nowell Road. Also, on Trinty Road, they are building a road that goes to Cary Towne Blvd so that might be what the construction is-not quite sure where the road comes out on Trinty Road.
Hope this helps

Wasn't Brandywine supposed to keep building out further?
They're also building a sub station (Progress-energy) in the vicinity of Trenton and Trinity road:

Raleigh Trenton Road 230 KV Tap Line - Progress Energy

The developers of brandywine are trying to sell the lots right off 40 for $60k. you cant access them from the existing subdivision. You have to drive through a few trailers to get there and you can throw a rock on 40.
