The thermostat says "Simple Comfort 2201." The model #: HP024X1221A. My townhome was built in 2001, so the A/c unit should be that old.

We had the same issues with ours...our first summer, the air coming out was not cold. We had service come out and they said it was a leak and refilled it. By the end of summer I still didn't think it was very cold. The next yr, sure enough, same issue. It did freeze up too. Luckily we kept our home warrantly in place and they ended up replacing the coils in the attic. $1000 or so, but we only paid $50. But it has worked great ever since. Not sure if its worth replacing the whole unit or just coils, but with the warrenty, I was glad to pay $50!

There are different standards than were in place in 2001.

Now 13 SEER is the minimum efficiency rating you can buy. Mismatching different SEER equipment is not recommended and in most cases voids any warranties.

In 2010 they will no longer be selling brand new equipment with R-22. New equipment only will start using R-410a which is suppose to be more friendly to the environment.
