Area specific
Some parts of Durham are served by Verizon while most of Raleigh is at&t territory hence some will be able to get Fios and others U-Verse. Ironically here in Wake Forest I’m served by Embarq so I’ll have to live with Time Warner to get respectable high-speed Internet and TV.
I’ve heard rumors that Embarq would offer Fiber-to-the-Premises here in Wake Forest but I’ve seen no proof of that to date. It is so disappointing that I’ve even considered moving back to the living nightmare that is the Washington, DC area just so I can get a fiber connection. It almost makes sense since I practically live on-line.

I also saw an AT&T truck on my street this week. I asked the tech about the U-Verse rollout and she said they're targeting December for the Cary area.
FWIW, all my experiences with AT&T/BellSouth here have been great (from customer service to their extremely knowledgeable field techs).

We had bad luck with AT&T when they could never diagnose a problem with the landline at our previous apt. Had to get the NC Utilities Commission involved.
When we changed apts in the same complex, AT&T waived the charge after I told them we were considering digital phone from TWC.

Any updates / experiences with U-Verse? I'm looking into it and would love to hear any feedback!

Can a DIRECTV owner list the HD channels that they get that TWC doesn't offer? TWC has added a lot of HD channels over the last few months. I'm with TWC and the only channel that I don't get in HD now that I would like in HD is Comedy Central.

Here's a list of the HD channels that Directv has:
DIRECTV: All HD Channels
I'll see if I can find a similar list on the TWC site.

If you start with the DirecTV list and toss out the network duplicates (east/west), and the sports packages (e.g., FSN) it looks like a pretty good overlap with TWC on the "major" channels, but there are a good number of ones on DTV that TWC doesn't get (maybe not big ones, but more nonetheless), and at least one I noticed that TWC has and DTV doesn't (TravelHD).
