Question I want to move, where should I go?

My boyfriend and I currently live in Indianapolis. We want to move somewhere closer to the beach (either the ocean or a really pretty lake). We would like to move to a south-eastern state (NC,SC,etc.) But we don't know much about any of the states accept that living right on the beach is extremely expensive.

We are looking for a cute area with lots of young people about 40-60 minutes from a nice beach. (or closer, if not too expensive)

Anybody know a great place?! Help!

Thanks

40-60 minutes to the beach? Then this room isn't the subforum for you. Raleigh is at least 2-3 hours to the beach (depending on which beach you go to).

I'd go into the main NC room and ask about Wilmington, Greenville and other cities "down east", if you want to be that close to the beach.

I'd second that, but I was thinking more about St. Petersburg. Not as "big city" as Tampa, fairly quaint, decent art scene, and it seems to be "on the way back up". I really like the area.

Try Myrtle Beach, SC. When I was there a couple of years ago, the prices seemed reasonable. Don't know what you want to spend, but they had condos right on the beach for 100K.

The beach is nice, but what I like about living in the Triangle area is that you are 2 hours from the beach and 3 hours to Asheville (mountains). For me that is perfect...but if I wanted to be closer to the beach than the mountains, I would go for Wilmington or Florida. Personally I like Cocoa Beach, but Tampa/St. Pete is nice as well.

For my family, NC offers the best of both worlds living where we are at.
