I was a QA Software Engineer in Portland prior to my 2nd child. While I have not returned to work yet, I have monitored Monster occassionally for jobs. There are QA jobs here in the Triangle. As with many tech jobs many seem to be posted as temp jobs. But they may be temp to perm jobs.

If you haven't already add worktriangle.com to your search list. BTW, maybe search the forum for general advice about getting a job from out state. I've heard many firms prefer to hire people who are already here (as they can start faster & they don't have to pay relo costs.)

Good luck!

I am a Senior QA engineer in North Carolina and right now the market is dry. There is work, but like someone else said, most are contract to perm, which offers a lot of risk if moving from cali. Good luck

The market is getting drier as some of the big companies have begun laying off staff, including IT and development staff. I wouldn't recommend moving here without a job lined up.

You'll have a better chance if you drop the QA.

Look at gaming companies. Software QA is becoming a bigger part of the equation in the industry. As for landing a Software QA spot here in the Triangle I'm not sure what's out there. May be better off presenting yourself as a "tools" engineer. That is, if gaming is an industry you'd consider.

I work in gaming and in QA, just not the engineering side. I would very much like to have a staff of QA Engineers in my department as many of my competitors now do.

Good luck!

I got lucky w/ a temp-to-perm position that worked out for me in Software QA, but it took awhile to find. Good amount of contract positions, but not all are necessarily stable (speaking from experience and looking at IBM, here). Lots of them want experience in SQL, Java, and specialized automation software which don't have free/trial versions of available. So like others have said, try to find a perm position, but definitely get something before you move over here.
