Jackie,
What sort of carpentry do you do?
Framing, trim, etc?
Residential or commercial?

No offense to anyone who might be affected by a credit crisis, and best wishes to JHW for a speedy recovery in the job market.

It's very possible. I was just suggesting that they are jeopardizing their jobs as dozens of constituents in the triangle I am personally aware of are voting against their party wishes simply on this one issue, including myself. I can't believe it's isolated either.

I have done all from ground up. Worked in both residential and commercial.
I have filed for the benefits. I am allowed to make $85 per week without penalty.
I am seriously considering a total career change. Im 40 years old and have to come to the reality hard labor isnt gonna treat me so well in future. Its just so hard to start over after 25 years in trade. Also having family of 5 makes things totally tough.
I give thanks that my wife has a decent job currently.
Anyone have any leads on good places to look for jobs? Ive emailed probably 50 companys so far with no luck. They want people who have 5 years or so experience so wages wont be so high I guess ???
Im keeping my spirits high but this is a new point in my life thats very depressing. Thanks to all for the kind words.

Be patient, something will come through, it always does. Did you try craigslist? I think one thing ppl are finding out, it may be wise to take your resume' and go to companies that you're interested in. It sounds like you're a go-getter and you would be successful that way. Good luck! What other work are you looking into?

3 weeks? I am sorry Jackie, but you probably have a long way to go. You have more competition from people that already have jobs than from unemployed people. Finding a great job can happen in 4 weeks or 4 months. Better to work part time for extra cash while you are looking. You will get a good job, it's just a matter of time.

Open up the phone book and starting emailing your resume with a cover letter to companies. I did that and was pleasantly surprised to get replies back. It didnt happen immediately but it did happen. Good luck!
