I'm looking to relocate to NC from Pa. I looking at the Raleigh area (due to a school there), but I'm willing to live even up to say 40-50 minutes away. East of Raleigh only, because I want to still be able to go to the beach in the summer. Can any one help me and tell me what towns are nice? I have kids (so school distict is important), I'm also looking for land (a few acres).

Personally, I don't think I'd go any further East than Clayton. If you go 40-50 minutes east of Raleigh toward the beach, you are going to be in a much different world than you would be in the Triangle.
From Clayton, you can be at the beach in about 1:45. From Raleigh, you can be there in 2:00. The trip down I-40 is a no brainer and typically easy and fast.

May I suggest that you post your question in the Coastal North Carolina forum. You may find individuals living east of Raleigh commuting into Raleigh there.

I live in Zebulon and can recommend it, but I don't know if that's too close to Raleigh for you. I work in downtown Raleigh, and my commute is 30-35 minutes. (It would be shorter if they'd synchronize the traffic lights in downtown Raleigh, but that's another thread!)
