Default Considering moving to Raleigh area

I live in NJ and am considering moving to the raleigh area. My husband and I are taking a trip down next weekend and I wanted to know what are the best areas to check out. We have 2 small children 2 & 9 so the schools are very important to us. Also I've been hearing there are issues getting gas down there. Is this also true in this area?

I was down there last weekend and I had some issues finding gas, but it seemed liked 1 in every 3 stations has gas. I found it, but it was inconvenient.

As for areas, I would recommend you hook up with a realtor and have them show you around. I think I have settled on Holly Springs personally, but that uis based on my needs and wants.

There are many "best" areas, but it really depends on what you are looking for. If you could give some specifics on why you want to move to the Triangle and what you are looking for I'm sure people can give some helpful suggestions on places to check out. Are you looking for city, suburban, or rural living? What types of things do you liek to do? What kind of stores and dining do you want access too? How long of a work commute is ideal? Are you looking to buy a house? If so, what is your price range? Certain areas of the triangle are more expensive than others (in general).

One big factor to keep in mind that the Triangle is a large place and if you don't have any idea where you will be working it may be hard to make reccomendations on good palces to live since commute can be a huge factor.

+1 on that... When my wife and I moved here, she had a job, I didn't. We're both in education-related fields, so we wanted to be as central to all the major campuses as possible, so we chose SW Durham, right near the interstate. 15-20 minutes to both UNC and Duke, and right on the interstate if we had to get to State. It worked out well. We're at UNC and Duke, and we decided to build right nearby where we've been renting.

My husband and I live in NY and are thinking of relocating to NC as well. We went to Raleigh area in August and spent 8 days searching. I probably came home with over 100 flyers on beautiful homes. If we relocate we think we will settle down in the town of Clayton in Johnston County.

We went down expecting to look at homes in Apex or HollySprings and really felt at home in Clayton. Not to far from Raleigh but 40 highway miles from Durham. We're used to the long commute so it didn't really bother us to travel.

We liked a dev called Taft Woods. Good Luck!

At $4.00/gallon, you will most likely not enjoy commuting.

If you want to be far from shopping, dining and major employers then choose Holly Springs, Clayton and etc. If you want to be close to major employers and major centers of entertainment and shopping but still enjoy a bit of laid back life...then choose Apex, Cary, Morrisville. Even places in Raleigh and Durham feel like smaller neighborhoods depending on where you are. But I would stay away from Johnston County for several reasons.

It's funny how you have your heart set on one area, then you get there and find somwhere else. Bottom line, that's why I always tell everyone to come look first.
