Coming from Michigan which is FULL of many, many lakes. Some beautiful and some not so beautiful, and some GORGEOUS lakes... I am wondering what anyone can tell me about the lakes in this area of NC...? How many? What are they like.. (ie; silty? clear?)

There are no natural lakes in NC...with the exception of a few very small ones in the mountains I believe. In and around the triangle you have the artifical lakes of Falls Lake, Jordan Lake, Shelly Lake (very small, reallly more of a large pond with a walking path/park around it) and about an hour and a half north on the NC/VA border is Lake Gaston (much cleaner and more recreation-friendly than the Jordan Lake or Falls Lake IMO)

That is incorrect
check your data on things that can statistically be proven
Lake Waccamaw, White Lake, Lake Mattamuskeet, Lake Phelps, Jones Lake,and Salters Lake ahers. These lakes that are in Eastern N.C.
There is none in the piedmont, Raleigh, Foothills or the Mountains that are natural.
Um. I'm not sure how statistics proved the above statement.
This area wasn't glaciated during the last ice age, so none of the lakes are terribly large or clear. The ones around here are formed either from holes dug to expose the water table for drinking water, or dammed up rivers. Many have recreational opportunities, so you can do a little bit of kayaking or fishing on them.
Yeah, that's the kind of thing I'm wondering about... So, if you like to swim it's either drive to the ocean or put in a pool? Probably a better thing that there aren't lots of bodies of water since the climate is warmer and there would be more dangerous critters like Texas and Florida... ? I'm pretty clueless.. Never lived anywhere other than Michigan as an adult, but we've been to visit NC and think it's absolutely beautiful! Looking forward to FINALLY moving there! Been waiting a year, and we're hoping this next Spring... : ) Thanks for the info!
You can swim in Jordan lake, but there's a park fee. There's also a few swimming holes which are swim at your own risk. Not a lot of houses have pools, but there are a lot of community centers/swim clubs that you can join, and some housing developments have them as well.
Lakes, what lakes?? That's what I really miss having grown up by Lake Michigan. I swam in Jordan Lake once and the red clay bottom (the soil here) turned my swim suit and me red!
It is pretty here, but very, very humid in the very long summer...
Except for a few exceptions aren't most of the "lakes" in this immediate area drained, dredged, cleared and then dammed swamp like land?
