Default Sidewalks in Raleigh metro?

Hi again!

Do most or all of the neighborhoods in Raleigh metro have paved sidewalks? When looking at homes online it was hard to tell from the photos, some seemed to have them, others did not.

Thanks

T

If they are in Raleigh proper, they probably all have sidewalks....there may be some cul de sacs or such that don't...but the vast majority of them should. Call and ask your realtor.

IF you Mapquest or Google the areas you're looking at you can view an aerial radar shot of the place. You can tell from that photo if there are sidewalks or not.

The only issue I found is the maps don't always have some of the new streets/subdivisions as Raleigh is growing faster than the map companies can keep up.

One of the easiest ways to tell if you are in the city limits or in the county is to look for curbs/sidewalks. If you see curbs, you're in the city (which means you have city taxes), and no curbs = outside the city limits. If you're doing an mls search, you should see whether the property is within the city limits, and that *should* answer your question.

That is not 100% true in all cases. There were several subdivisions in North Raleigh we looked at that did not have curbs or sidewalks, yet they were in the city. (One of them on Durant between Falls of Neuse and Six Forks had very large houses, too. I was surprised.)

May I ask which neighborhood? Some neighborhoods, such as Cross Gate, are half and half, so you may see a difference there. For generalizations, I use the curb example, but I guess I shouldn't generalize too much!

To be honest I don't really remember the name of those subs specifically. My brother was driving me around the area and we went in and out a bunch of places to grab flyers, etc. Most of them were above the price range we were looking for so I didn't pay much attention after that.

One was at Durant/Six Forks as I mentioned, another was on the Litchford Road area, etc. A couple of the places were small so I don't even know if it was a subdivision technically. (One at Litchford/Gresham Lake area had only a couple streets and maybe 25-50 houses max.)

Believe it or not, there are lots of neighborhoods near downtown Raleigh that don't have curbs/sidewalks. Just take a walk on any back street in SE Raleigh.

Yup...as well as many streets in the northern half of University Park, and in Oberlin Village area. This city can be so random at times.
