Default Young teachers looking to relocate

My boyfriend and I are heading South this summer to (hopefully) begin our teaching careers. We will both have our masters degrees from a university in NY. We are hoping to find a place in Va or NC relatively close to the water, and with a younger population. We are leaning towards living in a suburban area, but are not opposed to working in urban schools. Any advice??
-Not too interested in big cities.

I would look in the Raleigh/Durham area and look into Wake County or Durham Public Schools. Check the website, www.wcpss.net and note the job fair in April for Wake. Hope this helps.

By water, do you mean a lake, ocean and/or the ocean? How close?

We aren't too worried about the water aspect at this point...but would love to live near the coast, as opposed to a smaller lake.

We are making a trip down to Norfolk, VA in a few weeks. Are there any northern areas of N.C. that would be worth detouring towards during our trip? We are looking for a suburb to a smaller city; nothing too big. Any good school districts in the area worth applying to for teaching positions?

Thanks for your thoughts.
