Hi again!

With the incredible growth going on in Raleigh metro is that causing problems at the Doctor offices & hospitals as far as getting an appointment quickly to see your primary care doctor? And how about the Hospitals?

Here in Las Vegas its crazy, you will be lucky to see your primary care doctor without waiting for an opening 2 weeks away! I called yesterday ( Friday ) they said we can squeeze you in for march 3rd. And when you get there , its another hour wait after your scheduled time.

So since i know Raleigh is growing as fast or as close to Las Vegas i was wondering if any of you have problems getting quick appointments?

Also please let me know how the hospitals are , as far as ER wait time.
I wont even start to tell you how bad it is here!

Thank you

enjoy the weekend!

T

I think the doc depends on your insurance, but even with our pediatrician (and they are always crowded) we never have to wait for an appointment. There seem to be a huge number of doctors here (especially because you have duke and unc med school, so a lot of docs stay in the area) so finding one and getting appointments is nothing that I have heard complaints about.

ER waits, I think it depends on the time you go in, and the time of year. During this time of year, on a weekend, you could wait 4 hours to be seen from a doc. A friend of mine brought her daughter in to wake med north (a stand alone emergency department) and they actually kept her there overnight because the 30 bed pediatric floor was filled at the main wake med hospital. I have taken my daughter to the wake med north facility twice, during the middle of the week, middle of the day, and we have been in and out in 30 minutes...........so, it depends.

I think most times they advertise 4 hours.

I've never heard of too many bad experiences around here when it comes to this. I do know of someone who has to get an appt like 2-3 months ahead for his endocrinologist. But I gather that's typical for that particular specialty.

I think ERs would be better off if more of them told people who aren't *that* sick to go home. Go to one in flu season it's amazing. Don't they know that's what urgent cares and clinics are for? If you're at the ER it better be an emergency.

I am an RN, used to work ER, and 4 hour wait +/- is typical all over the country. It is the curse of HMOs and "affordable" healthcare. But that is a topic for another forum
