So I'm still moving to Raleigh, driving back and forth from my parents home (just moved out), and am also buying a car from my relatives.
Now, I'm confused. I've never moved to another state before, and haven't done too much stuff at the DMV.
So in which order do I need to do all this stuff?
-I need a NC license
-I need to transfer the vehicle title into my name
-get my own insurance now, as I'm on my parent's insurance
-etc.
Now, I'm moving from a neighboring state, but I guess it's best to get everything transferred, but then why do I see a lot of people in various states still driving around with their former state's license plate for years?
Sorry, I'm just sorta confused about the whole process.

I think ppl don't switch over right away due to a couple of reasons:
1) Some states don't require inspection
2) PPl don't want to pay the personal property tax
3) Just waiting for their other registration to run out

Or, student? Or perhaps not living there permanently, so they don't want to change the tags (even though, by law, they really should).
You will need to take of insurance first even if it has insurance on it you will need a DL 123 and the agency will need to be license to sell North Carolina Insurance.
Check your SS card North Carolina does not allow abbreviations.
There is no sales tax on cars sold in NC but there is a HUD when purchasing in North Carolina
Take the DL 123 to the DMV with all other required documents.
You will have some time to get tags but I would go ahead and knock it out so that you will not put it off later and forget . Map out the dmv and tag office they are not in same place.
Inspections I dont want to answer til I experience the new changes that take effect next month.
Went in and asked at the "Driver's License Office" in Clayton - I was told that I had to have a NC driver's license in order to register the cars, so that was first.
Don't know where insurance stands on the list, but I would change it over just before moving.
