Default Moving from Ireland

Hi there,

My wife and I are looking at reloating to NC from Ireland. I'm Irish and she is American. Raleigh keeps coming up top of the list when researching online. We're both out door types and love the sun. Can anyone tell me is there much of an Irish community in the Raleigh area and how receptive are locals to blow ins like us.

Thanks

As you've probably already read, the Triangle is a very diverse place. We've got transplants from all over, and I'm sure you'd feel welcome here.

If you like outdoors and sun, North Carolina's got it, and on a side note, your Euros should convert very much in your favor when moving over here

I don't know of an Irish community in particular around here, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was one, and I do know there's several "Irish-style" pubs in our downtown that are really great places to hang out.

BTW, I visited Dublin in 2003 and loved your homeland!

Well, I'm somewhat envious of your original location but, oh well.
I agree that you should have no problems with the natives here as we are transplants from WV about 1 1/2 years ago. It's funny in a way; I'd say 75% of the people I come into contact with are from somewhere else, not Raleigh (or even NC.)
Your outdoor activities can be fullfilled here as well: plenty of lakes, the Smokies are about 3 hours west and the beach is about 2 hours east, and Raleigh has an excellent parks system. Plenty of things to do.
I do know there are Irish groups and organizations here and I did a quick search and found http://www.irisheventsnc.com/. Take a look as it may have some info for you. The bar listed at the bottom (Tir Na Nog) is the one my wife and I like to visit when the kids push us over the edge. Good live music there. Hey, bring me an irish coin so I can use it as a ball mark! Just kidding. Good luck to you.

Check out http://www.irisheventsnc.com/ for the latest Irish events in the Triangle.

Other things nearby include the Flora MacDonald Highland Games in Red Sptings in October (I know, Scottish, not Irish), which draws a big crowd, too.

Well, I don't have much to add other than Raleigh has one of the largest St. Patrick's Day parades/festivals in the southeast...so even if there aren't tons of Irish people, per se, there are a lot of Americans with Irish heritage here.
