NINJARICK is on a distinguished road
I live in lindenhurst N.Y. and I just got back from the raleigh triangle area
with my wife and 9 year old son , we went with a local realtor Bob Rodwell
who showed us beautiful homes in Cary, Apex,Holly Springs , Fuquay Varina,
and Wake Forest unlike Long Island house searching there wasn't one home
I didn't like but we are narrowing it down to Cary/Apex or the North Raleigh area
All I can say is i'm so blown away by how beautiful and unspoiled the land is
the people are so friendly and even if they arent sincere it's still better than the
the rudeness of people from N.Y. the only unfortunate thing for me is my home
on Long Island hasn't sold yet otherwise I'd be rushing yes you heard me rushing to get out of the sick rat race of N.Y. Raleigh N.C. area reminds me of the eastern part of Long Island but without the congestion the snobby attitudes and ghettos . I highly recommend anyone who wants to move to N.C. to visit Raleigh try some North Carolina BBQ and enjoy

Ninjarick, glad to hear how much you liked it, but, remember, any thriving economy will havea mix, it will have rich & snobby people as well as a lower class to do the scut work, and the Triangle does have all of it. But, the prevailing vibe is middle class, and we are comfortable here. Good luck selling that house!

Thanks , I realize that it will have a mix but what I meant is that the majority
of people i've met whether they have money or not is just much more polite
than N.Y. for instance there one home in apex where the wife had her own business and you could tell was very well off was not snobby at all in fact she
offered to watch my son so her kids could play with him while we went on our
way to other homes , also I visited a waffle house which seemed to be predominately proverty stricken people both white and black working there but
they were very happy and polite as well if i ever walked into a place like that
on long Island I would feel threatened and made to feel like I didnt belong not
true of the waffle house , maybe it's just me but I'm in love with North Carolina

I know. Also the racial mix is... healthier. There are lots of middle class black people and they shop, & live, & go to the same schools as white people- unlike the part of LI that I come from. It is refreshing.

Default Long Islanders in Raleigh

From all the Long Islanders that i chatted with seem to be happy with Raleigh.

But i'm curious, if the homes & taxes were the same price on Long Island then would you go back? If so why? Would you say you like & feel LI is a better place to live or Raleigh? again if the cost of homes & taxes were equal.

Thanks

I would not go back. I do not want to slag on Long Island, I will always have a place in my heart for it. But there is more breathing room here (I am talking about the feel of the place)
One bad thing? I truly miss the salt water. I used to stop at the beach, all seasons, at least once a week, much more in the summer, of course. Wewere at Virginia Beach this weekend and it made me sort of wistful.

Default CT relo

This is a good thread to keep up. My wife and I are heading down to the Raleigh area. Our visit will be mid March and plan to do exactly what has been advised. Schools are not an issue with us, just some good, slow down living. Big question will be planned communites or not. Of course, employment is an issue but probably not a concern since with the explosion of new residents jobs have got to be available.
I would encourage the LI relo folks to continue this and share their thoughts and maybe even some photos. It will help all of us in this big decision.

Thumbs up I am from Long Island - Born & Raised there

Spent the first 22 years of my life in West Islip then moved to Wading River...so all I ever knew was Long Island...this has been a great experience...I am LOVING it here...I can't say that enough...

I would be happy to share my experience with anyone, if you have questions please feel free to message me. Although new here, I will help in any way. I moved here Nov 2 2006...so I am here just about 4 months...

Thanks

Hey Everyone,

Thought I'd post a picture of the house we bought in Youngsville two weekends ago. It is in Spencer's Gate right off of 98 about 2 miles east of 401.

It's a 2200 sq. ft. house that sits on 0.77 acre with a huge bonus room over the two car garage. We paid just under $230k for it.

When we get down to the house again I will take a bunch of pictures in the sub-division and around town for those of us that may be interested in the Youngsville area.

This is a great thread and hope that I can help some LIers with the move
