Where in Raleigh are ya?
Hi there!
Plenty of Long Islanders are packing up as we speak and planning a move to Raleigh. So many people i know are relocating to Raleigh and i recently spoke to a friend that may move his entire business from LI to Raleigh.
I'm originally from Huntington NY, currently in Las Vegas Nevada, but we are planning a move to Raleigh also.
So where in Raleigh are you? I'm glad you like it.

Thanks

Thanks, I also just heard that there is a little shopping area being developed in Youngsville, which will include a Food Lion!
A quote from the Youngsville Area Business Association website:
"One of the most important items the town worked diligently on was the new shopping center which will include a grocery store! The developers will be signing annexation papers next week and then Food Lion is coming to town!"
Not sure if Wake County has something like this set up but we found Franklin County's GIS Mapping site to be very useful. Check out . . .
http://www.co.franklin.nc.us/ROK/mapviewer/viewer.htm
It allows you to view subdivisions as they will be laid out with lot dimensions and other important information. This is very helpful when looking into sub-divisions that can not be found on Google Maps, Yahoo Maps, etc. Just make sure that you allow each action to fully load the page before initiating another action. If you need help using this service let me know, I have become pretty good at using it

Forgot another site that we used quite a bit. Wish we didn't have to be concerned about this kind of thing but reality is what it is. This site will allow you to search for registered sex offenders near your new potential address, this way you will at the least know where these jerks are so you can avoid them.
The site is . . .
http://ncregistry.ncsbi.gov
when you get to the site click on the "Search the Registry" link and enter an address.

It's a 2200 sq. ft. house that sits on 0.77 acre with a huge bonus room over the two car garage. We paid just under $230k for it.
When we get down to the house again I will take a bunch of pictures in the sub-division and around town for those of us that may be interested in the Youngsville area.
This is a great thread and hope that I can help some LIers with the move

The tax rate was stated as 0.84% on the full listing from our Realtor so our lender took the sale price multiplied by 90% and then by 0.84% and will use this estimate to set up our escrow account until the home is assessed in Jan.
Also, all homes in Franklin County will be re-assessed in 2008, not sure of Wake County's plans.

Hi, We are also from LI and are considering relocation. What sub divisions are the most desirable and what schools should we look into further? I've read some good things about Wake County schools, but I'd love to hear first hand from anyone with some experience. Thanks!
