Thumbs up Southeast Raleigh Photo Tour.. LOTS of pics!!

I just thought show some pictures of a seldom seen part of Raleigh in these forums. These pictures were taken in December also. Southeast Raleigh is still a work in progress battling some major issues. It'll be interesting to see this area in the future. Sitting adjacent to Downtown with easy access to I-40, it is certainly a jewel in the rough. For those folks deciding on relocating to Raleigh, keep in mind that this is a VERY small part of the city that you will probably not venture into. North Raleigh is miles from this area. So don't let this thread give you second thoughts about moving here. You'll love Raleigh.

We'll start in the South Park neighborhood. It is not uncommon to see prostitutes sashay up and down Bragg Street.

Hayes-Barton. Somebody appears to have gotten evicted.

The end of S. Saunders St.

Some burnt out house on Hargett.

Skyline as seen from Martin Street.

Skyline as seen from Chavis Heights.

Skyline from McDonald's parking lot.

I'm Hungry....

Shaw University

Some random shotguns.

Some projects.

Corner Stores across from St. Augustine's College

SAHARA Mini Mart!!!!

Upon returning home from my little adventure, my baby was there to greet me!!

looks like the HOA is slacking a bit - they would get better attendance at meeting if they held it in the Bojangles !!

One day alot all of that will probably be gone. If you notice some of it is already boarded up, and alot of stores fronts for rent. Who in their right mind is going to rent there? Somebody with money needs to come in and clean up this area. I myself have lived here for over 20 years and have never visited that area. Thanks for the pictues.

Interesting photos, but my god dude, did you literally drive around looking for the worst of the worst? I know SE raleigh ain't all new and shiny and pretty like north raleigh or cary or whatever, but goodness...this photo essay isn't all that inclusive of everything that's out there, you have to admit. Only one pic in the bunch showed a decent home. (Plus there were a few that technically aren't SE ral.)

Hope everyone seeing this doesn't get the idea that entire southeastern quadrant of Raleigh looks this way...because it certainly does not!

Every large city is going to have it's rough areas...whether it's a few blocks or several miles. I guess it's all relative, but, I don't even think most these pictures are even that bad--just dated areas in need of some revitilization.

I enjoy seeing all these pictures that area posted from all over Raleigh---keep them coming!

I think it is good to show this, so that prosepective transplants can see that they are not moving to Celebration, but to a real city with real issues.

I just wanted to add that those areas are in downtown raleigh, inside the beltline. There is an entire other section that is also considered SE Raleigh outside the beltline that are in transition and are growing and has brand new neighborhoods sprouting up all over.

maybe the next Hurricane will blow thru SE Raleigh and do $100m of improvements - but seriously in 10 years time I would bet that the area you pictured will be transformed into Mall / Restaurants / Luxury Apartments and we will all wish we bought one of those shacks as an investment

I don't know if that is going to happen or not....it may....but I don't think its going to happen that fast.
