Default Discount lift tickets?

Anyone know where I can find discount lift tickets to any of the NC mountains and/or VA mountains? With the slumping economy, we're trying to keep our snowboarding trip(s) "local" this year. TIA

Not sure...and good luck. I wish it was like Colorado where you can just walk into a King Sooper's grocery store and pick up lift tix for almost half price! One option for saving some money might be to hook up with one of Alpine's bus trips to Wintergreen. With that you might save a few bucks on gas and possibly benefit from a group rate, but I'm not sure.

Costco sometimes carries some, and you can also check out C&R Sports in Hillsborough. They even own a couple of cabins at Snowshoe and do several trips there each year, along with a trip out west or to Europe.

About this time of year Kroger does a secret promo -buy X# 12=pk Pepsi & get 2 free lift tickets -normally to Snowshoe.
I never see it until after friends alert me to this.

If, however, you have decent skills on the slopes, you'll find Wintergreen to be a waste of time. As somewhat of a ski snob, I wouldn't bother going anywhere except for Snowshoe or Canaan Valley in WV. It's 6 hours to get there from here, but it's the only terrain worth skiing. If you are learning the sport, then most places are a decent bet, but Wintergreen is not cheap for what they offer.

Default Thanks for the tips everyone!

I've only been riding for about 5 seasons, so I'm not an expert. However, this season I'm devoted to getting my gf better, so she can actually enjoy Whistler/Blackcomb the next time we go back to the best skiing/riding in N. America...

Winterplace in WV isn't bad either, and is probably the closest. The problem with Wintergreen is they just don't get much snow. We always called it Winterbrown.

I have a different opinion on Wintergreen. Visited there last year - 1st time in 2 decades. the runs are quite challenging (for the area) and on-par with Snowshoe's Cup Run (although much shorter and much narrower). The prices are much better than SnowShoe -I believe a Harris Teeter 'vic' card gets lift discounts and we stayed off mountain at some 'free breakfast' Hotel.

With the narrow trails, be extra careful of snowboard squatters. Just like anywhere else they will squat just beneath ramps -just where you can't see them until it's too late. Never could figure why they do that -figure they must have a good reason.

Obviously I'm not a boarder, but the Snowshoe & Silver Creek terrain parks are the best I've seen in VA/WV. That should make SnowShoe worth the price to boarders.

Careful teaching SO to ski: Had DW running the 2xDiamonds @ Copper Mtn & she came back (unknowingly) with DS.

Don't get me wrong, I like the terrain in Wintergreen, and they offer some nice lodging/restaurants, etc., they just rarely have good snow.

I agree w/ CajunWon on Wintergreen - especially their "Outback" area or whatever it is they call the expert terrain. The mountain is nicely segregated so that the better skiers don't have to tangle w/ all the beginners the whole day. The terrain is nothing compared to Snowshoe, obviously, but its closer and more practical for some. Also, they spent a small fortune recently to put in a state of the art snowmaking system which has helped with their coverage and snow depth. FWIW, I'm a bit of a ski snob myself, but I would ski at Wintergreen again.
