Noice Ordinance for Wake Forest (Franklin County)?
Anyone know what can be done about barking dogs left out damn near all day long? My neighbor leaves their dog out nearly all day long on weekends which barks non-stop. It sounds like I live next to a dog kennel. I'm trying to find something online about a noise ordinance or something that can put a stop to this.
I seriously don't understand people sometimes. If you have a loud dog who barks non-stop, why would you leave it outside for all of the neighbors to hear? Anyone hear of common courtesy anymore?
TIA.
Edit: Title should say "noise", not "noice".

We had a neighbor that left their dog out all day long, my hubby worked from home and the dog barked all day long...........I think the only thing that could be done was calling animal control. If they are not the people to call, they could probably send you in the right direction.
it is amazing how annoying it is to hear the barking all day long!

I live in Indiana and our town used to have problems like that then a few years ago they passed a " General Noise Ordinance" banning noises like dogs barking, loud music ...etc. after 7pm

Have you tried talking to your neighbor about it yet? I'm pretty certain it wouldn't be considered a huge deal for barking unless it's at night.

I 2nd that option as maybe the neighbor who is not home does not know their dog is barking until its horse all day long. I would think that when the owner is home the dog does not bark uncontrollably.
Had a similar situation in a former neighborhood when a person kept their 'fruit loop' type bird outside during the day when they worked and it use to screen like a child being hurt. Strange noise for a bird but nicely informing the neighbor and they were unaware of the birds actions and fixed the problem by keeping the bird indoors while they were out.
We could of listened to the bird saying they were coo-coo for cocoa puffs but just screaming at the top of its large beak like a child was unacceptable and got fixed with a quick conversation with the owner.
Good luck!

Give the dog a few peanut butter sandwiches - heavy on the peanut butter - and he will be quieter for quite a while.

I would think so too, but that's not the case. There is always someone home when the dog is out. I just can't believe that it doesn't occur to them that a dog barking all day would bother others. No common sense whatsoever. It's amazing how ignorant people can be.
Anyway, thanks to all for the advice. What I'll probably end up doing is calling animal control. As someone pointed out above, they will probably be able to help me out or point me in the right direction.

One of my neighbors left their dog outside one evening until around 11 p.m. while she was out-- needless to say the dog was ticked off and barked non-stop until she came home. Fortunately she is a good friend and had no idea that he was barking while she was gone (as she wasn't there to hear it - different from your situation since your neighbors are home). When I called her to tell her, she got him a bark collar for the times she knew she would be gone and that has helped tremendously -- are you friendly with these neighbors, if so a phone call to them may help... if not, a note with a suggestion of a bark collar may not be a bad idea -- good luck!

We bought a zapper for our dog because of his barking - on low worked very well. Maybe that is a christmas gift idea you can give to your neighbor

When my first child was born, our neighbors had a small white yappy dog that barked all day long! Of course, it chose the side of the yard that my newborn's room was on! Needless to say, the barking woke him up more than once.
I talked to the neighbors and they made sure the dog was inside during "nap time".
So...I second the idea that you speak to the neighbors. If that doesn't work, sometimes you can get the HOA to send them a letter. After that, I'd call the non emergency number for police or the sheriff (if you are in the county) and ask what they suggest. At least maybe they can point you in the right direction.
