I went to the Flipside in Clayton last night for dinner. Earlier that day I'd been asking my Raleigh-native companion if he'd ever heard of/tried this thing called shrimp 'n' grits. Of course he had! Oddly enough, Flipside had it as one of the daily specials! I decided that was a sign from the universe and I ordered it.
It was a totally new thing to me. I know and love grits, but the combination was new and unique and delicious. This recipe was a "chipolte" version. It had bacon (actually, the little chunks reminded me more of what I call fatback than bacon), shrimp, onions, spinach, scallions and a spicy, creamy sort of sauce on the grits.
It was rich, greasy and delicious! Very filling as well. I literally didn't make it even a third of the way through the plate. I had another third of it this morning for breakfast. Yum! I'd thought at first that $14 seemed like an awful lot for a plate of grits, but it really was yummy and I'm going to get three full meals out of it, so it seems a bit more cost effective - LOL!
Speaking of Flipside - they're still open! Take a drive down and enjoy some good food and great music.
