Of course we need a Wegmans to put all the nasty Triangle grocery stores out of business. Eventually, maybe not in my lifetime, but eventually, I'm sure Wegmans will arrive in NC. In addition to having a great product selection and excellent customer service, Wegmans is an excellent employer. It would be wonderful if they moved here.
Raleigh needs a "leisure destination" spot. The Dorothea Dix land should be converted to "Raleigh Central Park." It could have restaurants, park land, picnic areas, horse-drawn carriages, carousels, art shows -- Google the official site of Central Park and look for ideas.
What are the "must-sees" for tourists when they visit Raleigh? Fill in this blank, "While you're in Raleigh, you absolutely must see ________." Right now, I can't think of anything. I'd love to see Raleigh Central Park as a place to bring visitors, a place to spend a weekend afternoon, or a place to go on a summer evening to watch the sun set.

Hmmmm.. I was thinking of the Dix property as a great site for a publicly-funded Major League Baseball stadium...
J/K, J/K
I also like the Dix 306 proposal rather than just turning it into state offices or other development.

People from Upstate New York know what I'm talkin' about.
EDIT: Didn't see people posted about it already.
i'm from a suburb of albany.. what ARE you talking about? i've never seen a wegmans in my life.
as an outsider, i think what's missing most in raleigh is that active downtown feel. it's like this one short street with nothing much really on it (fayetteville st), and some scattered bars/restaurants around the city. the rest of the entertainment seems to be strip malls and shopping malls. i'm moving there anyways, and am excited for the downtown growth, but i feel like there's too many people living there for the 30s-40s suburban life to have a real impetus for significant downtown growth. cities 1/4 raleigh's size have more going on in that respect, even without skyscrapers.
If you guys want Wegman's so much, why don't you all write the company and tell them? If there's enough interest, they may consider it. Just a thought.

They are slowing expanding and moving South. They'll get here eventually.

What we really need to work on is an Ikea.
I'm really surprised they haven't brought IKEA there yet.
