N&O reportsthat the proposed revised comprehensive plan will be introduced Monday, 12/1.
It stresses transit and population density.
You will be able to see it in any of the 9 Wake County Public Library branches in Raleigh, or review it on line.
I bet the servers will be working hard tomorrow!
More from the City of Raleigh... (http://www.raleighnc.gov/portal/server.pt/gateway/PTARGS_0_2_306_200_0_43/http%3B/pt03/DIG_Web_Content/category/Business/Comprehensive_Plan/Cat-1C-20061024-123328-Comprehensive_Plan_Updat.html - broken link)
Thanks Mike. It should be interesting to see what they came up with. I'm surprised that the last plan was done all the way back in 1989. I have to say I'm not sure how effective the new plan will be. I can't even begin to count the number of zoning and planning meetings I've been to where a developer openly admits in their application that their design does not meet the existing comprehensive plan for the city and the committee approves it anyway.
I'm not saying we shouldn't have an updated plan, but what good is a plan if nobody follows it? While I'm happy to see an updated plan I find myself becoming increasing frustrated with the lack of implementation of current controls. I just hope this most recent plan doesn't end up being used as doorstop in somebody’s office.
If the governing bodies believe that the Comprehensive Plan is outdated, and that the variance is reasonable, it would seem logical to set the plan aside.
OTOH, if the plan is ignored just to cater to developers, yes, I think that undermines the reason for the plan.
Just thought I'd mention that the deadline for commenting on the Comprehensive Plan has been extended until February 28.
