Default How to become an Electrician??

Hello!

Does anyone have any knowledge on how to become an electrician?

Is there such thing as a hands-on program where I wouldn't have to go back to school and take English, Humanities, etc....?

Thanks for any info,

Carol

You could probably become an apprentice to learn the trade and get up to speed. Probably be low pay, a lot of ladder holding and fetching. Then you take the certification and licensing exam. I would highly recommend Wake Tech though. You will learn the way things should be done, then learn on the job how things are done in the real world.

Default Visit an IBEW Local....

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers should have a local Union Hall or office where you can get information regarding their apprenticeship program.

Another route is to get hired by a company who conducts their own apprenticeship or training program for electricians. Or get hired by an electrician as their helper.

A third/fourth source may be to check the NC Dept of Labor website to see what is required for licensure as an electrician.

Additional classroom training will probably be required. Including geometry and trigonometry (easier than it sounds) which is very useful when bending the conduit into which you will be pulling wires.

Contact Wake Tech or Durham Tech. They usually have training programs for construction trades. Then try the OJT / apprentice programs previously mentioned.
