May be moving to Louisburg soon---Please advise!
Hello. Was planning to move to Wake Forest but was overbid on a property that my family fell in love with. Found another property in Louisburg. My wife visited the area a few weeks ago (Raleigh, wake Forest youngsville area). She absolutely loved it. She didn't get a chance to go up further north to Louisburg. Can you all advise me on the commute time. It seems to be about 35 miles north from north raleigh, and mapquest is telling me that is about an hour commute. Is this accurate...can you go over the speed limit for a faster commute.
I know louisburg is a small rural town...anyone know more about it? We want to live in the country and have animals, garden, etc. but want to be close enough to the city. We homeschool, so schools are not a problem. We use our internet service alot, will we be able to have internet? I know the library has internet service and the properties I am looking at are about 15 miles north of the library.
I would like to start a service business in the Wake Forest area. Will see how that goes and if I do get a job or transfer from my own it will be the Raleigh area, either central or northern Raleigh.
any comments or input would be greatly appreciated for any of the above questions and thoughts. Thanks for your help.

Hey, my parents have a farm in Louisburg. It is actually ten min. north of the "city" Louisburg is small. Down 401 there are all the fast foods places, gas stations, and walmart. There is one or two grocery stores. CVS and Walgreens as well as a Rite Aid. There is also a southern farms, agricultural supply store. Besides that I don't know that much about it. Seems quite and safe. From Raleigh it takes about an hour to get to, 45 min if you don't get stuck behind someone on the two lane road of 401.

Thanks melannut! Does it take one hour to get to northern raleigh or central raleigh? Also, is it a nice drive...scenic wise? The two lane road of the 401 is that one lane for each in opposite directions or two for both ways? Thanks for the information.

Central Raleigh takes an hour. It is a nice drive very senic. 401 is one lane in each direction. I got stuck behind a funeral procession one time, not fun.

Louisburg is a different world than Raleigh. I would highly recommend visiting that area before making a decision. I don't think you can make a decision about Louisburg based on a trip to Raleigh.
The commute can be much more than an hour depending on the time of day.
The local newspaper might be useful to you in learning about Louisburg and Franklin County:

I grew up in Louisburg, and it truly is a different world. It's pretty destitute, and its residents pretty much find everything they need at the Walmart (Super Walmart under construction). That is the best way I can best describe how the people differ from the true suburbs closer into Raleigh.
I also recommend a thorough visit prior to making any decision.
Louisburg is 25 miles north of the US1/US401 split. I'd say 35-45 minutes is needed for the commute to Capital Blvd.

I agree - its a different world...............
A few years ago we had reason to visit Louisburg and we talked to our daughter about "visiting a part of North Carolina she rarely sees."
In many ways Raleigh/Wake County - even rural Wake County is sooooo different from the outlying counties. In many ways I like it better.. but think the natives would detect too much "yankee" in me.. although I've been living here 25+ years and I've tried really hard to assimilate..

We moved to Louisburg 2 weeks ago, It is very nice we live in the Historical part of town and yes we have to travel to go to the big shoping areas of Raliegh however it is well worth it ,the people are decent and dont care if you go to church or not ,the schools are good we have a 7 year old and she is very happy,I predict that within 5 years this place will Boom with a new Home Depot and Lowes and probably a big box shoping center. Here its quite and you can sleep at night.
