No - I have an interim job - I can transfer my current position to the Raleigh area. As for hubby - well, construction here has pretty much halted a long time ago, but the bulk of ongoing work is commercial and home improvements. He may have to stay in NY and keep working until something comes through. We bought the house down there in June and just can't carry both the rent up here and the mortgage down there any longer. I hope there's a better solution than living apart. He is open to hearing any opportunity. Thanks!

Default Exceptional Child Teacher

I have posted elsewhere asking about areas in the Triangle to live. Teacher in MIchigan for 14 years--special education emotional impaired / behavior disorder. Recent trend here is reducing EI kids, classifying as LD...

Last school was residential placement...adjudicated youth. Suddenly not so many kids breaking the law? That is good if it is true...anyways I have had 2-3 years in one place for last 10 years. Decided it was time to get serious about a career in one place. Looked at 2-4 states and took job in NC..

Seems to be a few teaching positions--particularly for special / exceptional children teachers...

I hope this thread is still alive! I will be moving to Fayetteville from San Jose, CA in June. I am an Office Drone by trade: Administrative Assistant, Office Manager, Executive Assistant, Receptionist, Bookkeeper and have worked several years in the community college system. I have over 20 years of experience as support staff of some sort or another. I've started checking the job sites, government job listings and school sites. If someone knows of upcoming openings, please let me know. Thanks for reading this!

If I was looking I would look for the jobs of the 21st Century but would settle for the jobs of the 19th Century.

21st Century Jobs:

They say look into the WIND for the future, but when I do it only dries out my eyes.
They say look to the SUN for the future, but when I do it only blinds me!
They say look to Hybrid cars, but when I do I get sticker shock and need a Defibrillator to get shocked back into reality.
They say look into Financial firms, when I do I only see Bail Bondsman in my future!
They say look into Health care, but I only get SICK at the cost to retool my skills.

So maybe the 21st Century jobs are truly government sponsored jobs, where everything from Financial to Health care is owned and regulated by the Federal Government, for the people and by the people. Where did the American dream of Free Enterprise go?

The pain killer addicted Rush Limbaugh conservatives recklessly deregulated it to the point where the crooks ran off with all the money. Can you say Stated or No Doc loan? Right now some banker is sipping a cocktail on a warm sunny beach in the Caribbean laughing his pants off.

Don’t worry, “Free Enterprise” is alive and well but will most Americans have the skills and education to meet the challenge? Consider that I just did a Monster search on the keyword IT and over 5,000 jobs came up. Yes that’s nationwide but haven’t Americans always moved to where better opportunity exist?! Everything does not begin and end with Raleigh North Carolina.

Here’s a little advice from El Grizzbo, next time an employer asks you to do something unethical or corrupt just think back to the economic disaster that we’re presently in and say NO. Remember also that, “Evil triumphs when good men do nothing”.

Maybe I'm being a Polly Anna because I have to be, but there is good knowledge here. The sun, wind and hybrid cars all represent "green" technologies that are needed and are due some financial support from the administration. Health care never "goes out of style", especially with the Baby Boomers aging, and biotech is getting a boost from stem cell research being allowed. You named the industries I'm specifically looking for jobs in because I think they'll be around for a while.

You make great points and I too believe the future jobs as the title says, 'jobs of the 21st century', but people need jobs today, now, yesterday and all the above with exception to Health Care & Bio are all in the future. I know I will have to buy a loaf a bread tomorrow too but I sure can use a slice today to get me to tomorrow! Its a matter of perspective.

You speak truth, dansdrive. I was out of work here in CA for 2.5 years so I completely understand. And I don't expect to be handed a job when I move. Finding a full time job can be a full time (no pay) job.

That is ALL that is available in the county where I teach(Johnston). Always looking for EC teachers---at all times during the year. Check Johnston County Schools.
