Default For job seekers: What are you looking for?

I was thinking that if we had a thread for job seekers, we could more easily help them out rather than say, "there are no jobs, go away."

So if you're looking for a job, please post what industry you're looking in, and what type of job, and a little bit about yourself, and maybe there is someone on here who can help you out. I know my department is hiring, and my division is growing, and my company is hiring elsewhere also. So the jobs are there, we just need to network.

Lightbulb The haves and the have nots

Maybe people who know of vacant jobs can post here so readers can get a sense of what the job market in the Raleigh area is really like. If you could also post a salary range that would help a great deal in determining if the job actually offers a living wage.

I’m also going to link to an old article that speaks to the issue of the shortage of skilled labor in the US. Although it seems crazy to think that companies are short on qualified workers the problem is as real as the housing boom and may have equally disastrous results if not addressed within the next five years.

The Coming Job Boom

OK. I'll go first. . . . .

I lost my job on Oct 8th when Sony Ericsson laid off 400 people in their RTP office. I was working in their SW department. Previously, I worked at Texas Instruments and Nokia in Dallas TX, also in SW departments, before moving to Raleigh with my family a little over 2 years ago. I've done requirements analysis, coding (C-language mainly), integration, test, and management, but prefer the coding part. Looking for similar work in embedded SW with similar company, large or small.

Or. . . . . if you know of a brewery that would hire me and pay me a SW engineer salary I'd take that too

My husband is a hardware test & design engineer. He's done software as part of that too, but is more of a hardware guy. He has lots of EE experience and degrees in ME and Materials Science. He's one of the 190 out of work as Qimonda closed its facility here. He also has experience at Micron, Seagate, and TI.

There really are no jobs here in his exact field, so he's essentially looking as a career changer. Most of his co-workers are leaving the area. However, all of my family is here and we really want to stay! So NewUser, maybe you and my husband should start a brewery .

My husband is a distribution manager...he's worked in large scale (1000000 sq ft+) and small scale warehouses. He also has excellent computer skills, particularly in Excel & all Office products and some html experience. He's had several interviews, but no luck. He is in his 50's, so I'm sure that doesn't help. We moved here 3 yrs ago, I had landed a great job, and the plan was for him to work part time until the kids started school....which he did, doing inventory consulting work during that time. Then he started a full time position last yr, but got laid off in April due to lack of work. That was not in the plan! HA!

I really like this topic here. But I have a different situation, we're still planning to move to Raleigh because of the school system, I know it's better than the school system here in SC. My wife is a RN and I'm sure it's not hard for her to find a job, so the problem is really on me. When we first got here in the US, I worked as a computer tech, doing all around things like networking, building custom built pc and server, imaging and deploying and some basic administration. To cut the story short, I'm still looking for an entry level in IT, it may be desktop support or network tech.

I hope this forum can help me too in order for me to help others too. :-)

By the way, we're still here in SC and planning to move there March next year, goodluck to me and other job seeker!!!

Default Sticky

I think this would make a great sticky.

Employment is a primary concern for people thinking about relocating to an area.

BTW if anyone knows of any Sales Management positions please let me know.

The members of this forum are awesome (gratuitous flattery)

I am looking for an administrative/receptionist position. I was previously worked as an Admin. Assistant for a VP and Sales Mgr. for 4 years and have many years working in Customer Service before moving here 10 days ago with my husband. I plan to hit the pavement soon. Thank you!
