My husband is the "pool" person but from what I know there is a new chemical that uses a salt solution instead of the traditional harsh chlorine. My girlfriend used it up North and I use it in my pool here. The water doesn't taste salty like the beach and it is easier on the eyes, hair and your pool liner.
I relocated from the North and everyone had pools. Go figure considering that it was so much colder and more expensive to run. When we searched for our home, we had to find a lot that was large enough with a good level yard. We also looked for some trees to soften the harsh summer sun. We found it in North Raleigh and the pool is beautiful. Can't wait for pool season. We also have a community pool but as you know, there is nothing like your own pool. We had Rising Sun Pools do our installation and they were great. I don't think that Wake County is as difficult to deal with as our local town up North. It was a breeze to have approved. Good Luck. Man a saltwater pool that sounds worse then chlorine. Also I don't know how it effects pool owners but droughts are very common in the summer. I know that come july water restrictions for lawn watering and car washing are usually put into place.

It is not the same as ocean saltwater...very mild. We've looked into a pool for the future, and this is the way we'd go.

My neighbors just installed a salt water pool......it ends up like saline solution for contacts, very mild and the water is softer. I know in florida when people have these pools many people also install a sprinkler system on the outside of the pool and it helps recycle the water, helping with even less maintenance. These pools are definitely increasing in popularity! If we even can install a pool, this is the way to go!

Explain the sprinkler thing, dont see what that has to do with a pool. I am considering an inground pool but not sure what you put into a salt water system vs chroline.

I don't quite understand the sprinkler system thing either. They use the pool as a rain-catcher, and then use the water in the pool to irrigate their plants?
If so, it seems like this would be bad for the plants. The water would have to be salty enough to kill any organisms in the water, which would be equally as bad for the plants.
