Sorry to pop in so late...been working all day! And for those of you that have not been outside, yes it IS raining!
I thought AA's were Administrative Assistants.
I do wonder how anyone would know how many administrative assistants live in one neighborhood but then who would care???

I have to admit that Alcoholics Anonymous was the only thing I could think of, too. I would suggest that, upon starting a post, we not use acronyms if they could be misconstrued.
Now the thread makes infinitely more sense. (Doh!)

Barrister,
What kind of things are you looking for downtown? What do you like to do? I could probbaly run off a list like Carolina Blue (Great list for Charlotte by the way). But it might help to know what things you are interested in.
To get you started, here are two sources with links to various restaurants and clubs in the Triangle area including downtown Raleigh:
ZSpotlight Nightlife
ZSpotlight Restaurants

Since I started high school in the 1960's I have been hearing that you should not judge people by the color of their skin. I think most Americans get this now, but some have been left behind. I include in that list anyone that refers to themselves as __________American. You can fill in that blank with anything you want to, but there should be nothing in front of American if we are all one country. Whether you like Raleigh or Charlotte or any other town or city should have nothing to do with its racial or ethnic makeup. It is time for those that don't get it to move forward and find some new values.
Races in Raleigh:
White Non-Hispanic (60.3%)
Black (27.8%)
Hispanic (7.0%)
Other race (3.2%)
Two or more races (1.9%)
Asian Indian (0.9%)
American Indian (0.8%)
Chinese (0.7%)
Vietnamese (0.6%)
Races in Cary:
White Non-Hispanic (79.7%)
Black (6.1%)
Hispanic (4.3%)
Asian Indian (3.5%)
Chinese (2.3%)
Two or more races (1.8%)
Other race (1.5%)
Korean (0.6%)
Vietnamese (0.6%)
American Indian (0.6%)
Other Asian (0.5%)
Races in Holly Springs:
White Non-Hispanic (75.7%)
Black (18.6%)
Hispanic (3.0%)
Two or more races (1.4%)
Other race (1.1%)
American Indian (0.7%)
Races in Apex:
White Non-Hispanic (83.4%)
Black (7.5%)
Hispanic (3.2%)
Asian Indian (1.7%)
Two or more races (1.7%)
Chinese (1.3%)
Other race (1.1%)
American Indian (0.7%)
Races in Rolesville:
White Non-Hispanic (82.9%)
Black (8.5%)
Hispanic (6.9%)
Other race (5.7%)
Two or more races (1.1%)
American Indian (0.9%)

Nope that's about it. I suggest you check Hampton/Norfolk area. Extremely "AA."
I could go on about wanting to be in a heavily "AA place" and ponder how that would be viewed if an "EA" (European) would say it, but that's a discussion for another thread/forum/site......

I think people on this board like to go a little overboard in pretending to not be racist or prejudiced. What they're trying to say is "I never would have guessed AA meant African American. Because I see people as people. Not as members of a race. Therefore, I thought of alcoholics and secretaries first." (Except for the raging bigots who automatically thought you were talking about Asians, of course.)
Or Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill is full of retards who can't use context to figure things out.
Really, I think non-AAs should quit responding to these threads. That would be like me responding to a "Is Raleigh a good place for retirees?" thread. I mean, I see old people around, and they seem happy enough, and hell, there are even a few in my neighborhood. But fact is I've never gone looking for retiree-friendly places and events here, much less anywhere else I could compare it to.

Wow, I am a raging bigot because I initally thought Asian American using context and my own experiences in the triangle! Wow, just wow.
His questioned asked about neighborhoods and I replied that my neighborhood was fairly well mixed and that there were no racial problems. White college kids on one side of me, Hispanic woman and her white boyfriend on the other side. African American Couple and older white lady across the the street, and we all get along fine, help each other out.
He also asked about downtown, to which I responded about downtown clubs and then that the more popular clubs that draw a larger African American crowd are not located downtown.
But what do I know, I am just a raging bigot.
