NC Sublet Laws
I have to ask a question. I currently reside in Durham North Carolina and I had a subleasee of a sublet agreement. I provided the sublet agreement as proof of address, but I am being told that it is an illegal agreement even though both myself and the subleaser have agreed to the lease. His landlord has agreed with the sublet agreement. If the subleaser, the origional landlord, and the subleasee agrees with the terms of the sublet, is the sublease a legal lease and will it stand up in court?

Subletting is not widely allowed in NC. Most apartments prohibit it, so I'm guessing you have a private landlord. Who exactly are you trying to present it to as proof of address and why are they telling you it's illegal? It really depends what is in it, how it's worded and who has signed it to know if it truly is a legal document that will stand up in court.

I would suggest getting actual legal advice from a lawyer, not a message board--don't want to get burned by mistaken info.

I agree with Francois....if it's legality is already being questioned, best bet is to have the entire document reviewed by an attorney.

I completely agree that the OP should be talking to a lawyer rather than trying to get advice here.
But I can't quite understand how a sublease that is agreed to by all three parties: the landlord, the renter, and the subletter, could be considered not a legal agreement.

I'm a lawyer and, without seeing the lease, I see no illegality if the landlord agreed to the sublet. What did he say was illegal about it?
I'm not a NC lawyer, though, so perhaps this great state has some wacky rules
