Manicure Emergency!
Well, not entirely an emergency... more like I-want-my-nails-to-look-nice-on-Christmas-because-people-will-be-taking-pictures.
So.... I moved from Clayton to Cary last week and haven't yet had the chance to check out the strip malls that line the roads. I'd prefer to avoid driving through all of them this evening. I want a good 'ol no-appointment-necessary $15-fill nail place to stop at on my way home from work.
If you travel my route and can just tell me which one to pull into at about 5 p.m. this evening I'd much appreciate it. I'm not that picky. As long as they do a decent job and won't cut me, I'll be happy.
I exit I-40 at Harrison and head toward Cary Parkway. Is that enough info to go on?

Well, this might be slightly out of your way, but I lived in Raleigh for 6 years (am moving back next month!) and NEVER found anyone who did as great a job as Rose Nails in Crossroads Shopping Center. It's in the section with BJ's Club and World Market and is just a couple doors down from the Christian book store if you know where that is.
In fact, just after I moved here to Asheville the cashier at Old Navy asked me where I got my nails done, and I had to sigh and tell her it was in Raleigh. She said that was too bad, because they looked so good. I am really looking forward to going back there when I move. lol!

It's not too far out of my way. I'll get off at my usual exit and if I don't see one in the first strip mall I come to, I'll drive over there. I think I was in that area the other day... I went to Michael's and a Target and Trader Joe's. It was dark and I was stressed out and confused about my stupid TomTom's instructions so I didn't pay much attention to what other stores were around.
I don't mind driving a couple of extra miles for a good nail tech. I'm just really, really, really tired and feeling lazy today :-P

I've been to a few different places since moving to the area but have found one I really am happy with in Apex, right off 55. I'm not sure how far out of the way it will be for you but it's in the shopping center with Lowe's in Beaver Creek, a few doors away from Sally Beauty. I've had two different people who did my nails on several different occasions and have been very happy with them. They're efficient, professional and fast. It took a few tries until I found them but they're worth the 15 minute drive from my home. Good luck!

Nail emergency update...
I did get my nails done that day. I actually ended up going to two places: One for my nails and the other for my toes.
My first stop was at Lovely Nails in Harrison Square (the Sam's Club strip mall directly across the street from SAS).
The young lady who did my nails had another appointment coming in and told me she had time to do a fill but not a pedicure nor even a toe repaint. Unfortunately, she really didn't have time to do a fill, as I discovered. She rushed and while she did a decent job, it wasn't great and she nicked me because she was in such a hurry. The polish job was acceptable but not perfect.
For $20 + tip I felt lukewarm at best about the results.
I know I said I'm not that picky, but I expect not to be cut and I expect not to have nail polish on the sides of my fingers...
I wandered over to Harrison Pointe, at the North-East corner of Harrison and Maynard because I'd noticed a Jamaican restaurant there and was really homesick for some sorrel and curry goat (that turned out to be a HUGE disappointment and really needs its own post!).
While there, I saw the Nail Forum and decided to check them out.
It is a good-sized nail shop and there were a sufficient number of workers to handle the clients there. I was lucky to arrive at a time when someone was available immediately.
For $25 I received a good pedicure with a careful application of polish. I *am* particular about my feet and she did a good job.
A foot and lower leg massage was part of the price and she didn't just run her hands over my legs once or twice like many do. She did an actual massage and it felt great. I believe they charge $15 for a fill and I'll definitely go back to them for my next service.
:-)

Not picky about your hands, but particular about your feet. Shouldn't that be the other way around?
