WTH is the point of this thread? Talk to someone in Alaska where the sun doesn't shine for months and months at a time, and they would say the NORTHEAST has no winter.

I have been here since 1993 and this is my take on the winter:
You should always put your winter clothes away but never ever your summer clothes.
Winter does not arrive in Raleigh untill after Jan. 5th.
When you think about it we really have not had any snow in 3yrs. The last snow we had was that 1/2 inch that grid locked our area. We all have a story about that one.
I think we are going to get a big snow storm this year. Remember the 22inches in 1999 or was it 2000.
We are due, the weather has been exceptionally wet and cold the last two months.
I think we should not let our guard down.

He's not always 100% right, but he understand the triangle's weird weather swings.
My kids ask me each morning..."what should I wear today?" and my answer is usually "step out on the fron porch and decide for yourself. Shove an umbrella and a jacket in your backpack just in case!"

So true about Greg Fischel. It doesn't take newcomers long to figure out who "greg" is when we're talking weather forecasts.

I don't like Greg (I really do like him) because I love thunderstorms and all the other weatherpersons will say "today we are going to have a t-storm" Then I watch Greg and he says "There will be no T-storms today" AND HE IS ALWAYS RIGHT!! I hate that!

Maybe it was the caveman in me...but Joanne Feldman on ABC11 was always my favorite meteorologist for Raleigh. Her husband was also my son's gym teacher!

The point is to have someone like me jump for joy, I'd almost written NC off thinking its winters were still too cold for my taste (11+ years in S. FL...) but now I'm rethinking that!

I split between Miami Beach and Raleigh.
There are many Winter days in Raleigh when the temps and sun are bright enough to be in shirt sleeves. For instance, a calm sunny 60 degree Winter day in Raleigh feels a lot warmer than a 60 degree windy day in coastal Florida. I spent two weeks in Raleigh for Christmas and didn't find myself in anything more than a light jacket the entire time.
But, note that the Winter temps in NC fluxuate greatly and a sunny 75 degree day can be followed by a cold 45 degree day. It doesn't happen like that day in and day out but it's not unusual either.
In the end, don't compare what 45 feels like in WPB and think that it's going to feel like that in Raleigh. It won't. 45 degrees in So. FL seems to always be accompanied by strong winds that whip off the water and blow cold moist air right through you. 45 degrees in Raleigh is often accompanied by a lack of wind and sunny skies. It's not as bad as you might think.

20 and 30 degree temps in Raleigh are usually accompanied with sunny skies (no "cloud blanket")...but I recall more often 45-50 degree days were overcast and drizzly. That's the typical "Cold" winter day in Raleigh vs. the "warm" 60 degree days that come up in the mix sporadically.

To rejoice in the fact that we typically have a glorious winter here and it beats the crap out of the northern part of the country. This late fall and early winter have been the worst since I have been here and even at that it is much better than back home ever was. Sometimes it's just great to stand back and appreciate what we have here and laugh at what we left behind.
