Is it better to be on the west side or the east side of Chapel Hill? Which is safer & generally preferred? Thanks

I hate to give you such a non-answer, but it depends. How far out from central Chapel Hill, and which neighborhoods are you comparing?

I am still getting familiar with the actual neighborhoods so I do not know the bounderies of each. I found a few homes that are a few miles east of the airport (Horace Williams) with 54 to the south & Homestead rd to the north. The other area we found a few homes are east of the airport west of 15 501. Thank you.

I think just about any house in a neighborhood is going to be safe.

I don't think there is an area east of the airport with Homestead to the north (Homestead is north of the airport and runs to the west).

In my opinion, the area east of MLK/north of Franklin has many good neighborhoods, and offers the best commute into the university and out of town. Not a big fan of the area east of 15-501, as it has the most traffic bottlenecks, but also offers the best values in town (Colony Woods). There's also some nice neighborhoods north of Estes/west of MLK, extending into carrboro.

I love the houses north of Estes and east of MLK too -- near the lakes. They are so close to stores, library, bus routes etc. but really feel like you are out in the country.

I like the mix of styles in that area.
Ranchers, traditional, some contemporary, a few mid-century moderns, and a smattering of newer transitionals.
With trees! Works for me.

I love those too. Houses with trees...hard to find a lot of times these days.

Honestly, I think the division is more North/South than East/West. (People in Southern Village, Meadowmont, or Near Franklin vs. those near Weaver Dairy)... maybe that's just my weird view on things?
