We are in Holly Springs, because of the same reasons you state...wanted more land. We have a boat and go to Harris & Jordan Lakes all summer long. You can't swim in Wheeler since its drinking water, fishing only. But we've had the boat on it.

My husband & I live in a development off of New Light Rd. in Wake Forest (it's what Six Forks Rd. turns into once it crosses 98). We too have a boat and LOVE being so close to Falls Lake. The Upper Barton Creek Boat Ramp (open 24 hrs, free) is about 3 miles away, and the Creedmoor Rd. Boat Ramp which opens to the wider section of the lake is about 10 minutes. We had a house built in the Estates at Devonshire (Intersection of New Light & Old Weaver Trail) which is in the price range you're looking at. The lower section of the development has 2 car garages & ~3/4 acre but the upper section has the 3 car garages and 1+ acre lots. We moved from North Raleigh for the same reasons you're looking to - we wanted 1+ acre and a place convenient for boating. There are a few spec houses for sale in our development (1 with a 3 car garage on Massimo Dr.) and a few available lots left as well, on Kalworth Rd. & Massimo Dr. One of the other plusses out here is there are no city taxes.

Also check out the Kelsey at Falls Lake & Greycliff developments which are nearby & in your price range. If you have any more specific questions feel free to PM me. Happy Househunting!

If you want to be close to Falls Lake I suggest taking a ride out to the North Raleigh and Wake Forest areas and check out many of the upscale communities along Creedmoor Road, Six Forks Road above I-540. There are also some nice places along Durant road between Six Forks Road and Falls of Neuse Road. I would also look to neighborhoods up along 98 between Falls of Neuse Road and Creedmoor Road. New Light road area should have some possibilities as well. At your price range you should I think you should have no problem finding the land you require with a suitable house and garage within a few minutes drive of Falls lake. Have fun!

You might also check Waterfall Plantation...large lots and close to the lake.

1.5 story
We would consider looking into building

More importantly we are looking for a smaller town feel then Cary, not like Cary is huge, but we really need more land and would like to see people around when we go out to eat and stuff...and my husband really wants to boat. We off of Lake Norman for a year and really miss the water.
You are describing Wake Forest! You may not even know that but you are! And in that price range, you'll be better off in Wake Forest or even North Raleigh (if you can find the acre lot).

Alot of the homes along the Hwy 98 area also have 3 car garages since you are so close to Falls River. And that area is gorgeous all times of the year.
