Experts Predict The Triangle Will Lead Us Out Of The Recession
Good article here.
Quote - "I think the Triangle economy has an edge over many parts of the world," he said. "It has the strength of great education, community colleges and a young, bright population that is growing in this market."

On the downside, I believe 2009 is the year that will produce the most pain.

I think it's great to be optimistic, but I still can't find a job and being unemployed is very difficult.

I am sorry for your struggles now. Unfortunately, it is going to get much worse before it gets better. Hopefully you will pick something up soon. The thing to remember is that economic cycles always happen and always will. We will never sustain endless economic growth. It can't happen. The turnaround is coming. Good thing we are here, rather than lots of other places.

Thanks for your kind words. Yes, I've been through a recession before and unemployment during it, particularly back in the late 70's, but I've never had such a hard time finding a job as this time. Yes, hopefully very soon I'll have a regular paycheck again....

Typically things pick up in Feb and March. This is not a typical time, but there still may be more action than there was over the holidays. The second half of the year should show better signs of life.

Me too. The last 5 weeks have been terrible. Things better pick up soon. We're expecting our second child in a few short weeks. Daddy better have a job by then.

Hate to say it, but that prediction was made by the Raleigh Chamber of Commerce. I agree with much of what was said, but it does sound a little silly coming from them. It's kind of like when the NAR says that it's a great time to buy a house.

Last year they predicted slower growth in 2008 compared to 2007 followed by a return to "real growth" in 2009. It looks like they're using the same forecast this year, just adding 1 year to all of the actual dates. I guess if you keep predicting that the economy will turn around next year, eventually you'll be right.
And boocake, it's not just always a great time to buy a house, it's always a great time to buy OR SELL a house!

Indeed! Especially with your savings account approaching zero and next month's mortgage looming large. ...and unemployment payments are just about enough to pay your groceries (maybe).
