Default Somewhere Nice to Live Between Rocky Mount and Raleigh or RM and Greenville?

My husband recently took a job in Rocky Mount (we currently live outside Winston Salem), but we don't want to live in RM. We have 2 children, but currently homeschool, so schools aren't a huge issue at this point. We thought we wanted to be in a more rural area somewhere between RM and Raleigh, however, after our first day of exploring yesterday, I'm not too sure. My intent is not to be ugly, but there were lots of single-wides with much personal property strewn about the yards. Not exactly what we were hoping for.

Any suggestions? We have also considered moving more towards Greenville. I have read lots of these posts (thank you for taking the time to write!) and still have many questions about location. We would rather not spend over $300k and would love to be in an area where houses are not right next to one another. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

What about Wendell. I've heard good things about it. I know ppl that moved there and love it. It's about 45 minutes to RM. Wilson or Zebulon maybe other options, but I don't know much about them.

Try the towns:

Zebulon
Nasheville
Elm City
Wendell

those are your best bets
