Could anyone tell me how hard of a commute it would be to go from Wake Forest to Cary every day? I see it is 27 miles. What would be the best route and how much traffic to you think we would encounter.
We are looking to move to the Wake Forest area or Cary area in May. I would like to be near Trader Joes and my husband, who is in the grocery management business, would also like to be near Trader Joes, as he plans on applying for a position there. I like Wake Forest better, from what I read and see online. I am into older areas with older homes and old mature trees, etc. Cary seems too new for me. The houses are new and a lot of the areas I see are just new communities with hardly any trees. Maybe I am wrong, but that is the impression I get. Actually I hope I am wrong. That would make this decision a lot easier. lol. Thanks guys!!! Lea :-) |

I live in wake forest, used to live in cary, and the commute would not be fun! Depending on where you are in wake forest and the trader joe's is close to where I used to live.......so, although it says 27 miles, it would be 45 minutes to an hour depending on traffic. I tend to go a "different" way than some people would from wake forest to cary, but I go 98 to highway 50 (also called creedmoor road) to glenwood to 440 outer beltline (which turns into US 1) then there is an exit for cary parkway which hits kildaire farm road (there is also an exit for tryon road which does the same thing.
Honestly, I understand what you mean by the differences in the two towns, but I think you can find what you are looking for on "that side" of wake county. the house we lived in was technically an apex address (although now I think it is cary) but we were on 1/3 of an acre with mature trees. Apex and the part of cary off of ten ten road definitely has more established neighborhoods than in the part of cary near research triangle park. If you would like, send me a PM with some information about what you are looking for and I can give you some suggestions! Good luck Leigh |

My boss lives in WF and we work in Apex right off of US1 (exit 96). It takes him 45 minutes.

Keep in mind Trader Joes is scouting land in North Raleigh and Northern Wake County. The only one is in Cary for now, but that is a relatively small piece of the bigger picking the "Right town/area" for you pie! I prefer Wake Forest myself. Cary is so monotonous to me.

I am always amazed in this forum how many people decide which area to locate to based on being close to a certain store / deli, etc that they had "back home". There are plenty of bagel shops, cafes, etc. I miss from NJ and Chicago, but that was then. Why not be adventurous and move out in the middle of no-where? Anyway, got it off my chest! Thanks.

Don't shoot but I must say...I had never heard of Trader Joe's until this forum. I was so excited when it opened that I had to rush over the first week. Maybe it was too much hype but I didn't see a thing in there that I had to have! Put down the gun. I took a friend of mine with me. She is from Maryland and she had been there before but she felt the same way. If they had never opened...we wouldn't have missed a thing.

You've got the right impression... ALOT of the new subdivisions have just been plopped down in what was previously a cow pasture, corn field, etc. I hated that when we were looking for a house, and specifically told my realtor that I didn't want to live in a field. I wanted an established sub-division, a little older was okay, and had to have a nice yard with trees and the neighbors atleast 100 feet away on both sides. I don't like these communities with 1/4 lot and a 2500 sf house, so they sit on top of each other practically. |
