the problem is that there is generally 3 days worth of food available at any time in a metro area. If this storm disrupts the truck lanes from major distribution points, it's hard to get more staples in your home. We'll hit BJs today for sure.

GSP going to Winter Storm Warning for CLT metro:
THE NORTHWEST FLOW SNOW MACHINE IS WELL UNDERWAY THIS MORNING...WITH
1 INCH OF NEW SNOW REPORTED IN NORTHERN AVERY COUNTY SINCE 7 AM.
RADAR TRENDS INDICATE LIGHT TO MODERATE SNOW...WITH PERHAPS EVEN AN
OCCASIONAL HEAVIER BURST...WILL CONTINUE ACROSS THE TENN BORDER
COUNTIES FOR MUCH OF THE DAY. THE WINTER STORM WARNING IN THOSE
AREAS LOOKS QUITE GOOD...AND PLAN NO CHANGES ATTM. OTHERWISE...WE
COULD SEE SOME SHOWERS (OF THE SNOW OR RAIN VARIETY) BREAK
CONTAINMENT AND VENTURE INTO THE FOOTHILLS/WESTERN PIEDMONT THIS
AFTERNOON...AS SURFACE LOW BEGINS TO ORGANIZE ALONG SURFACE
BAROCLINIC ZONE. THE 1ST PERIOD OF THE FORECAST LOOKS TO BE IN
PRETTY GOOD SHAPE...AND REQUIRES NO SIGNIFICANT ALTERATIONS ATTM.
AS FAR AS TONIGHT...AFTER TAKING A LOOK AT THE 12Z GUIDANCE...IT IS
A VIRTUAL CERTAINTY THAT WE WILL BE UPGRADING TO A WINTER STORM
WARNING FOR OUR EASTERN PIEDMONT ZONES...ROUGHLY FROM UNION COUNTY
(SC) EAST TO UNION (NC) THEN NORTH TO ROWAN...INCLUDING ALL OF
CHARLOTTE METRO. WE WILL ISSUE AN UPDATED AFD WHEN THIS OCCURS...
HOPEFULLY NO LATER THAN 1 PM.-- End Changed Discussion --

I just think it's funny that 4-6 inches is considered a winter storm...

I think the main problem is people down here are not used to driving in the snow and don't have the equipment to remove it like they do elsewhere so it has to be taken very seriously.

It will definitely be a "work from home day" no way am I venturing into the office tomorrow if there is snow on the ground. The roads are dangerous enough around here without snow on them...lol It will be nice for the kids out there wanting to play in it...that's the fun part! Happy Monday and Be Safe Everyone

Considering Raleigh only averages 8 inches a season, 4-6 inches is quite the storm for this area.

Story: Fog Monday morning, snow tonight? :: WRAL.com
I think we will only see a dusting (1/4 of an inch or less) here in North Raleigh. We never seem to get the amount they predict (they are saying 2 inches for the Triangle). Who knows, maybe they are right this time? So what do you think?
|
It can go the other way too. In January 2000 they were predicting 2-4 inches around 7pm, by 10pm they were saying 6 inches, midnight 12 inches....we all woke up in the morning with 2 feet on the ground! You just never know.

Five Inches of Snow for Raleigh on Tuesday!!!
I already e-mailed my son to warn him so he can be prepared to work from home for Tues and maybe Weds. The temperatures forecast or Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday are 40's low 50's and high 50's.
The kids should love building snow men tomorrow and Wednesday! None of this snow will still be around by the weekend.
Make sure you have two or three day's groceries on hand so you can enjoy the winter wonderland from your cozy, and well stocked, home!

I have seen on WRAL 1-3 said to be possible. Nothing certain yet.
