Default Any "Green" Home Builders in Triangle Area?

I have been wondering if there are any "green" home builders in the Raleigh area. We are looking for a builder who has experience with earth-friendly products in homes and who knows how to build and insulate such that energy costs are significantly reduced. Don't misunderstand me, we don't want to build a house out of mud and straw with windmills in the yard but we do want someone who knows how to insulate, how to use earth-friendly interior products such as bamboo flooring, soy foam insulation etc. and still have it appear from the outside like a conventional home. Anybody know of such a builder?

Default Were you able to fine any info on green builders

Hello, how are you? I know it's been some time since your post about green builders however I am faced with some of the same questions i can imagine you might have had. I am in new york and thinking about moving to the NC area in the next year and thought that a green home would be a nice start. Were you able to find any info that might help someone looking to build a green home in the state.

Thanks in advance wbenn@hotmail.com

AdvancedEnergy.org is a non-profit agency of the NC Utilties Commission. They advocate for energy efficient building and have programs to guarantee low energy bills for new homes that follow their guidelines and testing. They are located south of NCSU. I would look to them for referrals.

I was thinking along the same lines of building a green home in the Raleigh Area. I think instead that I may buy an old home and do a green makeover on it myself. I'm happy I came across this topic, because hopefully I can get in contact with a green home builder that can help me. Wherever I move I would love to find other people who want to do the same and move close by so we could re-build an existing neighborhood.

In our neighborhood, Homescape Builders is making all their homes energy star compliant. My parents also just built an energy star home with Legacy Custom Homes. This was a first for Legacy - but they were willing to accommodate the request.

The best thing to do is contact the local HBA. hbawake.org or hbadoc.com. There are quite a few "green" builders in the area, and many more that are very close to being green built. I do know that Drees is Energy Star, and they also use a lot of recycled and engineered products as well. I think that Cimarron homes is also green built.

When I was looking at low energy homes I was looking at Hybrid Solar House > Home out of Youngsville.

I like the designs, but you need the right land for them to work.
