Default Larger Lots than Bedford??

Hi - looking for more space between the homes than there is in Bedford. Price range $450 -$550K. Would like a neighborhood but Bedford is a little too "planned". Any suggestions for newer homes -2002 or newer with more yard area and more space between homes? Golf homes a plus. Work is in 6000 block of Six Forks Rd and would like to stay within 15 miles or so of that. Thanks for input!

What size lot do you want?
Would 1/3 acre do it? Typically, that would put 30-40 feet between homes.

Or are you looking for up to an acre or more?

You can get into Brier Creek, with golf available, and the lots may be larger than what you see in Bedfore. I would think that would look pretty planned too, thogh.

Personally, I could not understand why anyone would want a $500K house with only 30-40 feet between them. The crap houses in Bedford is understandable since they are all thrown together and very "planned" like the o.p. said but they are also not $500K. Most are probably worth 150K even though the owner paid $350K. I would look at some lots in Hasentree. I bet you could probably get one for a great price now.

New-shmew. If I wanted to subject myself to living in that area, I'd much prefer to live off Raven Ridge Rd and get a house built in the late 80's with 1-3 acres for under 400K. The fixation on "new", and what you get for your money, never ceases to amaze me. I'm just an anomoly, I guess.

Thumbs up North Ridge

To the OP, if you are willing to consider older homes but want to be close to a golf course and close to work on six forks I would take a look at the North Ridge Neighborhood. You can find a nice house there for betweem 400K-500K on almost a 1/2 acre lot and the North Ridge Golf Course is right there. There is one listed right now on Harps Mill Road for $424K that looks quite nice.

There is nothing wrong with newish or brand new homes! I have built 5 homes and each and every one was BRAND NEW! You get new appliances and new HVAC, better windows, better insulation and all the newest trends. I love the smell of a brand new house! Stop picking on the OP!

However...North Raleigh is very desirable and very pricey. To get much more land than l/3 of an acre, you'll have to pay a bit more. Durston comes to mind. River Run may have one or two. I'd stay away from the ones that back to the road.

I happen to love Bedford. In your price range, you can find some l/3 acre lots and maybe a corner lot would work for you.

What you want is out there...just takes some searching.

Vicki

The other thing to note is that many neighborhoods where most of the houses are close together will have a few "Choice" lots that are larger. we're at the bottom of a cul de sac that has only 2 houses and we back up to conservation (which then backs up to Preston Golf course, so we'll never have houses there). What this means is that in a neighborhood where most of the houses are jammed onto each other and people have neighbors on 3 sides, we have only 1 neighbor parallel to us. So sometimes it's just a matter of getting the right lot (and you can get it for less than in a 'hood where ALL the houses have huge lots).

Hmmm...crap houses in Bedford? Maybe we should compare our homes!

We had our (over $500k) home built in Bedford. Our builder could have built in other communities for us or on private land if we had elected, however we chose to have it built in Bedford for many reasons.

I toured many neighborhoods when we moved from California and fell in love with Bedford the minute I saw it! I like a sense of community and enjoy a lively neighborhood! I also find nicely manicured landscapes appealing.

Bedford has different types of homes and different types of lots that will suit a variety of people. The area of Bedford that I live in has lots that range from 1/4-1/2 acre. Yes...not large but it allows one to have a beautiful yard without having to spend their life maintaining it (and I enjoy yard work). I also do not have any direct rear neighbors and back up to a bunch of very nice large trees and still do not have any blinds on most of these windows because I don't need them!

So "underPSI" why is it so hard for you to understand that others have different desires than you? Do you always have to be so nasty just because others chose to live a different lifestyle than you? And as for your lovely statement about the crap houses in Bedford.....I would gladly compare the home I live in to the one you live in any day!

You don't want to do that, I promise. In fact, do a google search for "gusset plate". An image of one is below. Now go into your attic and see if you have these. If you do, then yes, you have a crap home.

Is Wakefield a little too "planned" as well? You can find a golf course home on a +.3 lot for under 550K.
