IBM layoffs in RTP
I am getting word that IBMers in STG (Systems & Technology Group) are getting laid off today. Does STG have a strong presence in RTP?
I am a bit surprised that IBM would do "rolling layoffs" like this. Wouldn't it be better to get it over with, in one week?
Please keep this local and refrain from meta-discussions on the merits or evils of outsourcing. We want to keep this thread open, unlike the other one which got locked up.

I'm not sure but my husband just got laid off at headquarters-Armonk. I hope IBM tanks along with Sammy. In a way a weight was lifted off my shoulders-tired of being worried about it. Something betteris out there-there has to be.

MomOfToo, I am sorry to hear that your husband got cut... I thought that most folks in Armonk would have escaped the layoff since that's the HQs for IBM. May I ask what function (e.g., finance, sales, etc) your husband was in?
Keep your spirits up, there is life after IBM.

Software Group, Lotus Division here in RTP... 3 out of my department of 16 (19%) were effected. Luckily I was spared, but this is certainly bitter sweet.
A sad day for IBM here in the triangle

Thanks... More bad news, a friend of mine was laid off from Tivoli (Software group) last week and his wife who works in STG (Systems & Technology Group) was laid off today! Can you imagine!!!
I have only worked for IBM since 2000, but this is by far the worst that I have seen.

I just caught the local news on TV. ABC News, citing the Alliance@IBM, reported that ~1,200 folks from STG got laid off.
Fester, congrats on making it through.

Worst I've seen. . . ?
I was working for General Dynamics in Fort Worth TX back in 1991. I was designing weapon system software for a new stealth, carrier-based aircraft for the Navy called the A-12. Dick Cheney, who was at that time the Secretary of Defense, decided to cancel the program because of cost overruns and delays. The company laid off about 4,000 aerospace workers (mostly engineers) within the month.
If Fort Worth survived that, the Triangle can handle this. . . . . . so far.

Why can't I get onto alliance@ibm's website? I've been trying all day.
